Warhammer 40K: Quarterly Balance Update Now Available
Oh boy, get ready for a feast of changes. There’s nothing too crazy but there are some tweaks and points changes heading to Warhammer 40,000.
Let’s cut to the chase: The 40k Balance Update is up and available to download. The Warhammer Design Studio has a few comments on what’s new and why. So let’s hit the highlights.
“Warhammer Design Studio: Overall game experience is in a healthy place, with a few outlier armies being too strong. In most cases we have just increased points and done a few point reductions for internal balance. Keeping our touch light and letting players continue to enjoy the state of play.”
Warhammer 40k Quarterly Balance Update
First up, I want to say that I do think it’s smart to keep the changes light right now. We’re basically at the end of the edition and we’ve got the Grotmas Calendar releasing new Detachments. Plus we’ve still got the 500 Worlds stuff coming soon. I think the game can do with the tweaks and points adjustments right now to hone things in. I don’t think that massive game changing updates are needed at this time. It’s Winter, right*? Let folks dig in, get cozy, and just play for a couple months. With that said, let’s talk about the changes that are happening. I’m going to try to hit just the actual rules updates.
For the most part, just about every army got some sort of points tweaks. So I’m skipping over those. If you want to know the “why” you can read the full breakdown from WarCom. The new points can be found in the Munitorum Field Manual which can be downloaded HERE.
*Okay, technically, it’s still Fall as Winter officially starts on Dec 21, 2025 but who’s going to be that pedantic in this community? Pfft.
The Rules Updates
Aeldari – Star Engines are now Assault. Skyborn Sanctuary requires the unit to have been able to fight. Fire and Fade no longer includes embarking. Aspect Tokens do not benefit the attached character (to match Incubi Shrines).
Chaos Daemons – Kairos and Lord of Change rules tweaks. The Endless Gift now a 5+ Feel No Pain (down from 4+).
Emperor’s Children – Rapid Evisceration Detachment now applies to Transports as well.
Space Marines – Shadowmark Talon Hunter Instincts is now limited to your movement phase. Terminator Assault Squad got an updated datasheet. I guess they DID need a boost.
Thousand Sons – Changehost of Deceit now benefits Daemons in your list from the Cabal of Sorcerers army rule.
Again, these are JUST the rule updates. There’s still TONS of points updates to be had. So go check your army’s section in the Munitorum Field Manual as popular units likely got a tweak in points — some up, some down. Personally, I’m still processing a lot of these changes myself. It’s time to re-run the points on the armies I want to run.
Good old Terminator buffs. Thunder Hammers hitting on 3+ is gonna be solid. Now you just have to get them there!
