Warhammer 40K: Top 5 Chaos Detachments That Need a Rewrite
Goatboy here to go over the top 5 40K Chaos faction Detachments that really need an update.
We’ve seen a new Detachment for CSM with the Nightmare Hunt/Dread Talons list so why not some other changes on the other detachments. I think there is a ton of room to update some of these and make for interesting changes to the armies. Let’s look at the most deserving ones we could easily update and create something unique.
5. Fellhammer Siege-Host – Chaos Space Marines
There could be such a cool update to this and make for a really unique CSM army. This one could be set up to push a more Artillery/shooting build with either some kind of modifiers to those platforms or even a push into the whole Obliterator and Daemon Engine side of things. There is just a lot you could do to make an Iron Warriors list and thought this would be a sweet one to update – especially if rumors are true we see some Iron Warriors love in the future.
4. Blood Legion – Chaos Daemons Index
How terrible is it that the Shadow Legion detachment does the Khorne thing better. I love the idea of “surge” moves but if all your units are pretty easy to remove with most shooting why even get a surge move? Why not make it some kind of first turn scout move for the infantry in the army or maybe some other kind of ebb/flow movement modifier as the Realm of Khorne bleeds into the battlefield. They have done so much with some interesting rules that let you pick a rule set for each turn so why not do it with the Khorne Daemons. I love the idea of your Chaos Daemons army breaking the reality around them so go hard into that.
3. Mercurial Host – Emperor’s Children
Why does this rule feel lame? It isn’t a bad rule but it feels like it should be combo’d with something else. Just the ability to reroll your advance rolls feels lame as a singular rule. The name indicates that this Emperor’s Children army should be quick to change temperament so why not push things in that direction. Let’s say that if the Warlord is alive on the table you could pick some kind of rules set to indicate their mood. Make it where the Warlord has to be alive or if you want to be spicy make it where Fulgrim has to be the Warlord and you get to do cool things based on their mood. Leave the Reroll advance rolls as the default first rule and then fire off some interesting options like bonuses to charge, bonuses to punching things, and even make it harder to hit you as your dancing like some kind of kid who drank 2 Rootbeers and ate a handful of Pixie Sticks.
2. Lords of Dread – Chaos Knights
Ahh Chaos Knights, I say remove the rule that you can only do your main Stratagem – Claimed for the Dark Gods – during your Command phase. That might make it work ok but we need to do more to pull people off of the Infernal Lance. That one does well because it can do 3 things with 2 of them being good so why not give something cool to the Lords of Dread? Why not something like a Show Off type of ability that chains off of doing more damage to something that is wounded by another big Knight. This pushes them to show they are better than the other ones and Show Off how awesome they are? They are the big Lords of Dread let them be petty punks around each other.
1. Khorne Daemonkin – World Eaters
Ok this one is easy and why it is number 1. Remove the 3+ to get a Blood Tithe point is step 1. Step 2 is to let anything dying give you Blood Tithe points. This alone would make the World Eaters a heck of a lot more interesting and let you do things like sacrifice your Khorne friends and try to profit off of the blood spilt on the ground. I don’t think this would be too broken as again you are not creating new units from the Blood Spilled. It would also let you do some cool things with all your Khorne options. Oh I would also say anything that has the Daemonic Keyword from the World Eaters gains bonuses as well. This would create a truly synergistic army full of crazy nonsense.
Come on GW, give us poor, poor Chaos lovers something to look forward to for the new year!
