Warhammer 40K: Top 5 Models I Hate to Fight – But Secretly Love
Goatboy here to wind down the year. This little list is all about models you hate to see on the tabletop facing you, but secretly like how they look.
Goatboy here with some more 40k nonsense for this Holiday week. I hope everyone got some things they wanted for Christmas. I also really hope you got a good meal this year and maybe some delicious dessert to fill your tum tum. You can probably guess a lot of these just based on the armies I actively dislike – but let’s start the list.
5. Avatar of Khaine – Aeldari
I got to paint one of these Aeldari Avatars earlier this year and it really solidified this thought of hating the model but secretly loving it. It was an amazing model to build and paint. I had a ton of fun with it and going into a crazy hot pink style to go in a different direction than the normal fire motif you see on others. I also just hate seeing this model on the table because I know my opponent will roll a crap ton of 4+’s for their saves and then devastating wound my models to oblivion. I hate/love this model so much.
4. Commander Farsight – T’au Empire
This model looks pretty amazing. I was secretly hoping I would paint him for Larry at some point but it didn’t come to me when he came out last year. I just find the T’au Empire suits so neat to look at and from a paint perspective they have so much interesting forms going for it. You can go hard into the OSL, Manga Style, or even just grim and dirty as they all work. It is just a nice model but I know if I see him and his other suit friends on the tabletop I am going to be rolling and failing a ton of invulnerable saves.
3. Abominant – Genestealer Cult
I think this is one of those models that I have PTSD for due to a huge commission I did years ago. It spanned a few editions so it just felt like it would never stop. I love the idea of these lumpen GSC guys as they just look cool and their rules are awesome. They are not awesome to play against but they feel like something I would love to play or at least have something similar in one of my chaos armies. I still hate this dudes with a passion when I see them because I know I will have to kill them twice.
2. Celestine, the Living Saint – Adeptus Sororitas
I have paint this one years ago and have dealt with this character for years. During the Deathstar days of 40k there was an army that utilize her and a ton of other super friends to create a murder ball of a unit. This was well before she got an updated plastic model so this dumb metal jerk would go around, wreck my face, and make me mad. They came out with the new plastic one that looks amazing and is such a pain to deal with. I am thankful she isn’t as good as she used to be but every time I see her on the table top with her Sororitas gang of friends I just know she will be a thorn in my side.
1. Lion El’Jonson – Dark Angels
This is a model I haven’t painted yet even though I thought it was one of the best designs to come out for a Primarch. I just think there is so much neat stuff going on with the model between the armor forms, head options, and weapon load out. I am glad they made him better but I hate playing against him. I have put so many wounds into a few of them during my tournament games and watched as that 3+ save does well or if I somehow throw Mortal wounds into the Lion and his 4+ just gets hot. He survives all my ire and just runs around the table top like he owns it. I know why he knocked out Angron and while I understand a 3+ invulnerable save I still don’t think it should be consistently in the game. I really wish Fulgrim got the Lion glow up but I guess will have to wait for another Dark Angel Dataslate update or two.
Which 40K minis do you hate to fight, but love to see?
