Just when you thought you might actually have time to hit the gym this year, Frosthaven announces a new early access update.

Just in time to keep you from wondering what to do with any possible free time you might have on your hands, Frosthaven announced a new major early access update: Legacy of the Algox. And here, I’m talking about the Frosthaven video game, currently in early access on Steam. I don’t think we’ve gotten to board game early access being a widespread thing just yet, but hey, 2026 is just getting started. Anything’s possible. At any rate, here’s what we know about Legacy of the Algox.

Frosthaven: Legacy of the Algox – New Heroes, New Bosses, And A New Quest

If you somehow missed the initial announcement, Frosthaven the video game is an adaptation of Cephalofair Games’ sequel to Gloomhaven. Only you don’t have to have friends in order to enjoy it, because you can instead play it on your computer. And, it’s being designed in coordination with Isaac Childress, the *haven designer, but also by Julian Gollop of X-COM fame.

So it’s worth getting excited for, to say the least. And the new update, Legacy of the Algox, adds a ton of new tools, toys, and a whole new storyline to play with.

Among the new toys, are three new heroes/advanced classes. These new heroes, “Astral”, “Drill”, and “Shackles” bring new playstyles and new abilities that will transform the parties you can build in your own game.

“FROSTHAVEN introduces the Legacy of the Algox storyline. With the Unfettered threat finally dealt with, the heroes of Frosthaven turn their attention to the escalating Algox conflict. An Algox messenger arrives, bringing information about a possible resolution. Now, the heroes of Frosthaven must decide the fate of the Algox and shape the legacy that will define their future. Something ancient and malevolent stirs beneath the ice.”

Alongside the new heroes, there are five new bosses to battle, each one its own tactical challenge. You’ll find two new biomes, and a whole mess of new quests, building upgrades, town hall challenges, and more. You don’t even have to wait that long to play. Frosthaven made the announcement earlier today, but it will be releasing on Steam on January 22nd, which is much closer than I’d like to admit at this point in the year.

See you in Frosthaven!
