Marvel: Crisis Protocol – Bring On These Ultimate Encounters

Atomic Mass Games has plenty of untapped potential. Here’s a few Ultimate Encounters we need for the Marvel: Crisis Protocol.

I’m a huge fan of the Marvel: Crisis Protocol Ultimate Encounters. There’s a bunch that are free to download and play from AMG. There’s also a few of the older Organized Play Packs that were for stores or events to use. If you get a chance to play with any of those official kits they are great because they usually have tip cards and tokens specific to the encounters.

Anyhow, I think these Ultimate Encounters are great for a few reasons. They are perfect for getting players into MCP as many of them are co-op or even 2v1 games. If you’re newer having someone on your side during the game can really help take the pressure off. Also the encounters can be scaled in difficulty fairly easily. And, if you’re playing them correctly, they can be a lot more strategic than you might think.

That said I fully believe that AMG has an untapped mine of Ultimate Encounters they are sitting on. It’s apparent to me from the Apocalypse Ultimate Encounter that they can really get creative with these Ultimate Encounters, too. So, with that in mind, here’s a few Ultimate Encounters I think they should absolutely whip up and release. Some of these are for “coming soon” characters, too! So let’s get into them.

Kang

Avengers #292 (1963) via Marvel

Kang the Conqueror is coming soon. Anyone who’s got an entire council of themselves seems like a good candidate for an Ultimate Encounter if you ask me. If you can’t imagine how Kang could be turned into a massive Ultimate Encounter then you might need to exercise your imagination a bit. A Time Traveler with an army of himself packing super advanced technology dropping in on the “modern” era seems like a pretty straight forward idea to me! How would that work on the tabletop? I can think of a few ways but more importantly, I think it means the Ultimate Encounter would need to include at least 1 version of Kang per player. I say start with that and then go from there…

Master Mold

Okay, so I know that fans have already made a Custom Encounter for Master Mold and that’s fantastic. Heck, I’ve made one myself and even built some custom terrain to go with it.  The version I made is basically an MCP “Horde Mode” where the Crisis Team(s) have to fight through Sentinel after Sentinel. Eventually (if they can overcome the odds) they still have to deal with Master Mold. It’s gets pretty intense!

But I think it’s time AMG makes this official! I don’t know if we’re ever going to get an official Master Mold miniature from AMG. However, with the Sentinels getting a bunch of reinforcements this year, I think it’s the perfect time to have a Sentinel Ultimate Encounter of some type. C’mon AMG, let’s get crazy with this one!

Annihilus

If you don’t know about the Annihilation storyline from the Marvel Comics you really should check it out. At the core of the story is Annihilus who’s basically invaded the universe with a seemingly unstoppable army from the Negative Zone. It’s a universe spanning threat that multiple interstellar empires have to band together and try and overcome. The story definitely leans hard into the Marvel Cosmic side of the house with the vast majority of Earth’s Heroes out of the picture (mostly due to the events coinciding with the first Civil War story).

Anyhow, AMG would probably need to release an Annihilus miniature (c’mon — do it!) but having this one be an Ultimate Encounter would be amazing! Shoot, I could see this one also become a Mission Pack with “linked crisis cards” like the War of Kings pack. And then it could end with the Ultimate Encounter! You can’t tell me that doesn’t sound like a good idea.

Shuma-Gorath

Look, I know AMG is bringing on the Dark Dimension Terrain and that we’ve already got a Dormammu Ultimate Encounter. That said, you can’t tell me this set doesn’t scream Ultimate Encounter. Shoot, they did it for Apocalypse. AMG even did it with the Hydra Tank! So you can’t tell me they couldn’t do the same for this set. I mean, Shuma-Gorath is RIGHT THERE…the Great Old One doesn’t even have to really move! I could see the Ultimate Encounter being a fight to close the portal. I mean, that’s actually been a few storylines in the comics already so it’s not without precedent. Obviously there’d have to be some evil-inclined servents trying to summon Shuma-Gorath forth in the first place. Gee, I wonder if we have any of those characters in the game already…

Magus

So Adam Warlock is coming to the game. But did you know that there’s a future version of him that’s straight-up EVIL?! That would be Magus. And he’s been corrupted by the powers of the Soul Gem (in a future alternate timeline). Anyhow, I won’t get into all the story elements here but Just know that once again time travel is involved and the powers of the Infinity Gems are also in play.

The point here is that Magus seems like a real threat and a legitimate Ultimate Encounter waiting to be made. Heck, if Thanos can get one due to the Infinity Gauntlet, then Magus seems like a no brainer here. Adam Warlock is already a Threat 7 character. So let’s just juice him up more, make him evil, and paint him purple. Boom. Magus is born again.

What other characters would you like to see Ultimate Encounters for? (Yes, I skipped Galactus and Doctor Doom because I’ve written about them plenty already).
