Blades in the Dark’s swinging 60s sequel proves that the revolution will not be plasmovised. And it couldn’t be timelier.

Blades ’68 takes the dark, gritty, gaslamp-fueled grime of Blades in the Dark, and spins the timeline forward 100 years. Now, instead of 868, it’s 968, and the world is changed. Electroplasmic Fusion means that there’s a plasmovision set in every house, and a false sun illuminating the sky and keeping the supernatural horrors beyond the B.L.U.E. at bay (mostly). The Swinging Sixties are radical, revolutionary, and ripe for adventure in a groovy new sequel? spinoff? expansion? to Blades in the Dark Whatever you want to call it, it’s coming soon, according to a new announcement from Evil Hat Games.

Blades ’68 – Coming February 9th To BackerKit

This is one I’ve been looking forward to for a while now. Blades ’68 is an homage to the radical revolution of the Swinging Sixties, framed through the Forged-in-the-Dark lens. Taking place in a Doskvol swept up in technological change and ideological upheaval, this one isn’t about being a gang and committing crimes.

Instead, it’s about rebelling against conformity and consumerism and a heaping dose of supernatural terror.

“In the Swinging Sixties, there’s a plasmovision in every home, an autopod in every driveway, and the B.L.U.E. array keeps the supernatural horrors of the deathlands at bay. For average citizens it’s an age of science, conformity, and consumerism.

But you’re no average citizen. You know better. In Blades ’68 you’ll play Radicals, Swingers, Intellectuals, and Paranormalists. You’ll join forces with hard-bitten Fixers, ex-military Veterans, shadowy Operatives, and outcast souls sealed inside a robot body.

You knowthe streets and you’re not afraid of danger. The moment is now.”

I get chills reading that. But maybe that’s just the way 2026 is going. At any rate, Blades ’68 is more than just a new setting. You’ll find new playbooks, of course, including the Radical, the Hull (the robot with a soul enclosed), and more.

But you’ll also find a new set of “Special Procedures” for running the game, including new rules for Harm and Resistance, a new Trouble Engine to help track growing developments and unrest in your Crew’s district, and more options for character emerging through mechanics. I’m excited. You should be too. Check out Blades ’68 coming to BackerKit in 31 days, which is February 9th for those of you playing along at home.
