RPG: Don’t Miss Steve Jackson Games ‘Toon 2nd Edition’ On BackerKit
The BackerKit campaign for Toon: 2nd Edition is going swimmingly, with 9 days left, and nothing but stretch goals in sight.
It’s the return of a legend. Toon is back, with an impending 2nd Edition from none other than Steve Jackson Games. As the name suggests, Toon is a game of Saturday morning silliness, and the kinds of escapades you’d find in a tune or a melody, so long as they were loony or merry. First created in the 80s, Toon is an RPG that invites zaniness, hijinks, and capers galore.
Taking inspiration from Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, and other slapstick animated antics, Toon is all about the limitless possibilities of toons. While it’s been a while since there’s been an update, cartoons have changed so much. And with SJG’s new edition in the works, designed by Steve Jackson himself in collaboration with new lead design Jay Dragon, it seems the time has come once more to break out the ACME catalogue.

Personally, I’m excited to see the ethos that comes to the game after the rich cartoon landscape has been updated by cartoons like The Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures which refined the raw madcap energy of predecessor cartoons into a laser-precise focus. Or the boundary pushing Freakzoid or even the more recent modern New Looney Tunes, which is not afraid to show off just how much of an absolute menace Lola Bunny really is.
The BackerKit campaign is going like gangbusters, having raised more than 200% of its goal with 9 days left. There are plenty more stretch goals to go, so read on to see what’s new in 2nd Edition.

What does the 2nd Edition mean, though? Well, in terms of its design, it seems that the game is going to be even more fast and frenetic. Rules-lite, of course, but then Toon always was. It’s all about getting right to the action, getting flattened, and then getting right back up again.
Toon 2nd Edition is well into the editing process, so hopefully once the crowdfunding project is over, it’ll beat its expected December deadline.
