Warhamer 40K: Top 5 Command Point Disablers
There are a lot of armies that depend on Command Points to win. Here are the units you need to disable and shut them down!
There are a lot of armies that depend on utilizing their Command Points, so today I want to talk about the top 5 CP Disablers. These are units that can either turn off the usage of Command Points or affect the amount you get to spend. I know a lot of armies have access to increasing costs, but not all of those units are the same. Let’s go through the list of the top 5 I see on the table top and why they are good if you have access to them.
5. Callidus Assassin – Imperial Agents
This is the most common one you see, as it easily slots into any Imperial Army. The model gives a 1 CP tax to any Stratagem used within 12″ of the model, which is just a great basic ability. You mix in the power to be a Lone Operative as well as the ability to redeploy, giving you a very powerful piece that does more than just disrupt the enemy’s game plan. I put it at 5th on the list, as the CP tax it gives is usually used less than the ability to redeploy for a lot of armies utilizing this piece in their list.
4. Nemesis Claw – Chaos Space Marines
I listed this one at #4 as I think its ability is one of the more powerful options out there, but its price, damage output, and need to be in engagement range make it harder to use. I still think this is a great option for CSM, but it is a heck of a lot harder to use as well. This unit’s ability is to cause any unit within Engagement Range to not be able to use a Stratagem with its Voice Eater upgrade. This is just a powerful ability that, when properly used, can be a method to surgically cut out an enemy unit. I think the fact that you have to have a Rhino with the unit and most likely an HQ choice makes the Nemesis Claw difficult to use reliably.
3. Cypher – Chaos Space Marines
This is the CSM version of the Callidus with the ability to tax opponents’ CP, have access to Lone Operative, and do some fun little shooting options. He isn’t a bad model, and again, I see him as a better option than the Nemesis Claw, as Cypher is cheaper and easier to run around the table top and be a pain in the butt for the enemy to deal with. He is also a pretty amazing-looking model that will do well with any of the upcoming CSM updates going down the pipe.
2. Lady Malys – Drukhari
This is a new one, but I get the feeling she will be showing up as players mess with the Dark Eldar again. She is just a good kit on top of having the CP Tax power, which makes her interesting. Her ability to power up her unit with a Pain token to have Sustained Hits or Lethal Hits is very neat, and she hits pretty hard with a Damage 3 attack that stacks into devastating wounds. Lady Malys even has a redeploy power, which just makes her a very useful unit beyond her CP Tax; she can throw out.
1. Logan Grimnar – Space Wolves
This guy can be such a pain in the butt. The issue with any CP Tax option is that it is usually on a squishy unit. Logan loves to be joined up with some Space Wolves Terminators and drop down into your deployment zone as a giant jerk ready to wreck your face. You have to deal with this monster and then figure out how you will deal with the tax bubble he throws out as he ends up in the center of your line. It is such a rough aspect, especially with this power to drop in turn 1 and just be a pain in the butt to deal with.
