Warhammer 40K: 3 Things I Want To See From The Iron Warriors Release
The Iron Warriors teaser has me wishlisting new chaos goodies for Warhammer 40,000. Here’s a few that I think we are going to need when they drop.
So earilier this week I went over a the Iron Warrior Teasers from the New Years Preview that GW had. I’m pretty sure we’re getting a Defiler and and new a new Mutilator kit. Those seem like likely kits based on the images.
And, while I hope we are getting a new Daemon Primarch with Perturabo, I’m also not 100% convinced that’s happening. I’m hoping to be wrong. That said, I’ve got a few more things that I’m really hoping to see. So let’s just dive in with the big three things I want from the Iron Warriors release.
Iron Warriors Kill Team
The Nemesis Claw Kill Team is a fantastic kit overall. Even if you’re not playing Kill Team, I think this should be the gold standard for Chaos Space Marine Legions moving forward. I’d like to look at the 40k range one day and see this type of boxed set for all of the “other” OG Legions. You know…the original Traitor Legions that aren’t (basically) sworn to one specific Chaos God. Alpha Legion, Word Bearers, Night Lords (who have a box), and Iron Warriors. I’m not counting the Black Legion as they are kind of the “default” already.
Anyhow, I think the Nemesis Claw Kill Team is fantastic. It’s based off the CSM Legionaries box but it’s got legion specific upgrades. That’s really what GW needs to do for the Iron Warriors. I’m going to be disappointed if we don’t see the Iron Warriors get the same treatment. And speaking of upgrade kits…
Basilisk Chaos Upgrade Kit
This one is for Old School Iron Warrior fans. There as a time when they could take the Basilisk in their Chaos Space Marine army. It was a special thing and many of those players lovingly kit-bashed the Basilisk Kit to be a “Chaosified” version. And yes, I know there’s a Chaos Vehicle Upgrade Sprue out there already. But c’mon…you can’t tell me a new upgrade kit or Basilisk redesign specific to the Iron Warriors wouldn’t be awesome.
Shoot, it would be even better if it was based off the Horus Heresy Era version. And yes, you could kitbash your own. But I really just hope that it becomes a part of the army and not just an “additional traitor guard detachment” option.
Warsmith/Other Character
So from the preview it looks like we’re likely getting a Warsmith which is cool. I’m guessing that’s what the Hammer and all those extra servo-arms are for. That said, I’m also hoping those teasers were for multiple characters. My fingers are crossed that we don’t just get one new character for the Iron Warriors with just a Warsmith. I know it’s a little nitpicky, but the Defiler and Mutilators are also both generic units for the Chaos Space Marines. Thematically, sure, they fit with an Iron Warriors release. But I’m hoping this Iron Warriors drop isn’t just one new character and an excuse to release a couple of generic CSM kits.
Don’t get me wrong — I’m GLAD to see those two kits teased and get updates. I’m just hoping this whole Iron Warrior drop isn’t a “here’s a book and a new character” release. Maybe it’s too much to ask. But this is a wishlist and not a “real list” right?
Give us an Iron Warriors CSM Kit, a new Iron Warriors Basilisk, and surprise us with more Iron Warrior specific characters than the Warsmith!
