Warhammer 40K: Captain Titus & The Wardens of Ultramar Up Close
We’ve got Captain Titus and the Wardens of Ultramar built and in the studio and ready for an up close look at these miniatures.
This weekend for pre-orders Captain Titus and the Wardens of Ultramar are coming. We’ve got the miniatures early thanks to GW and our very own Goatboy put them together. This group is a unique mix of Space Marines and support characters that we don’t see very often. We did get a look at their rules already though if you’re curious about them on the tabletop. But now it’s time to see them up close!
Captain Titus
Stoic and striking a pose that’s heroic and yet a little on the “safe” side, we’ve got Captain Titus. If I’m being honest, I was kind of hoping that’d Titus would be more action packed. Then again this does seem like a stance of someone who’s commanding more than just a force on the battlefield. It reminds me of the old Cadian Lord Castellan Creed in some ways. He’s more surveying the battle vs diving headlong into the front. Which, again, makes sense for his new position…but I kind of like the whole “diving into battle” mode Titus does in the video game.
Veteran Sergeant Metaurus
Veteran Sergeant Metaurus is coming to the tabletop and he’s really got the look of a member of the Bladeguard. He does come with an option for the helmet which Goatboy used vs the non-helmeted option. I don’t dislike this one but beyond the Ultramarine iconography, it’s really hard to tell him apart from a Bladeguard Vet. He’s kind of a beatstick in combat though!
Ancient Gadriel
Ancient Gadriel is in the house with the massive Banner. Again, he’s very similar to other Space Marine Ancients which makes sense. I also appreciate that he’s still rocking his “good hair” which is what my crew called him when we were playing the campaign together. He’s “the Marine with the Good Hair” is how we referred to him. Anyhow, I’m glad to see him getting a miniature.
Plenipotentiary Lucia Vestha
Kicking off the “mere mortals” section we have Lucia Vestha who is an excellent diplomat (apparently). Well now it’s time for this diplomat to get their hands dirty on the tabletop. I suppose if a diplomat is going to be fighting in a battle they are going to need a tactical rock and at least a pistol. I’m not sure if that is a “power scroll” in her left hand or what…Hopefully she’s got some combat training beyond pushing papers around…
Astropath Dainal Kornelius
Up next we have the Astropath Dainal Kornelius. He does come with a head option to have the blind fold up on his forehead vs over his eye. He also look like other Imperial Astropaths which makes sense. He’s probably pretty important for guiding the fleet around the warp. I don’t know if I’d want him on the battlefield over a Space Marine Librarian though. Still, neat model for an Astropath!
Gaius Silva
Commodore Gaius Silva also looks like he’s ready to give out some orders and call in a few orbitals. You don’t become a Commodore in the Ultramar Defence Fleet by being a slouch. But I’d think he’d be better suited to the Bridge or Command Deck instead of at the front line. Maybe he just wanted a front row seat to when those Orbitals DO hit…
Aemelia Minervas
Finally, we have Legatus Aemelia Minervas who actually looks like she’s ready to fight. She does look like a fancier version of an Astra Militarum officer. I wouldn’t be shocked if she’s see quite a bit of combat, too. Hopefully when things get messy and up close she can put that power sword to good use!
After looking over all these miniatures, I’m starting to wonder why most of the support staff would be ON the battlefield to begin with. Having your Astropath in harms way on a battlefield seems like a bad call for warp travel later. Couldn’t you just bring in a Space Marine Librarian? And why do you want your plenipotentiary there? Shouldn’t they be doing paperwork or something safe on the striker cruiser? Oh well, at least they have a couple of beefy bodyguards to smash any enemies that get too close.
The Wardens of Ultramar have a tall task ahead…Can they reclaim the 500 worlds?
