The Death Korps of Krieg are the latest poster boys for the Astra Militarum. But what about some old classic Regiments?

With all the happenings among the Galaxy in Warhammer 40,000 it’s no surprise that there’s quite a few famous Regiments of the Astra Militarum. Now that the Death Korps of Krieg are most recently  getting their due, we are taking a look back at some legends from previous editions of the game. Who knows…maybe one day we might see them get the plastic treatment, too!

Death Korps of Kreig

If you love the Grimdark, AND World War 1 the nameless Death Korps are for you.  Can’t choose between France and Germany for your fav WW1 force – well the blended design of the army has you covered.

Cadian Shock Troopers

Well, technically, they are still the “default” guard option. They are the standard by which all other Guard Regiments are measured. Cadian Shock Troopers also got a make-over not too long ago so they are still very much in the fight. And we even getting hints at what’s going on with their homeworld post-destruction.

Catachan Jungle Fighters

If you want your Guardsmen to look like 80’s action stars then have we got a regiment for you! The Catachan Jungle Fighters are some of the toughest Guardsmen around. They hail from a Death World and all look like they are ready to pump you up. Their main range hasn’t gotten a plastic update but they have gotten quite a few one-off kits in plastic. Maybe one day we’ll see their box get on that Tren(d).

Attilan Rough Riders

Somehow, against all odds, everyone’s forgotten Attilan Roughriders from 2nd Edition came roaring back to the tabletop in 10th with all new plastic minis. Like a bolt from the blue these cav shattered our expectations with a fantastic set of of minis that left us dazed and picking our jaws up from the floor.

Mordian Iron Guard

The Mordian Iron Guard are one of the most well disciplined fighting forces to ever take the field. At least when it comes to mere mortals. Their planet is unforgiving but they will not break! They had an impressive range of metal miniatures — all in full battle dress. Maybe one day we’ll get them updated, too. That would be one sharp looking army!

Tallarn Desert Raiders

This is one Astra Militarum Regiment I doubt we’ll see again. But it’s a real shame because I quite liked the theme of this army. The idea of a hardy army from a desert world was in stark contrast to the Jungle Fighters or the ones from Ice Worlds (see below). Oh well. Pour one out for the Tallarn Desert Raiders. But not too much — water is quite a precious resource!

Valhallan Ice Warriors

Sure, they might look like they are from the Eastern Front of World War II but they aren’t! These are the mighty Valhallan Ice Warriors. Trained in the extreme cold they have held up planetary invasions in carved out ice tunnels far below a frozen surface. You gotta give them props to be able to fire their weapons when they can’t even feel their fingers.

There are several more Regiments of Renown from the Astra Militarum. We don’t know which ones will show up but here’s the ones we didn’t go into detail on:

And there’s even more than that. But if your favorite Regiment isn’t on the list drop us a line and maybe we’ll do a spotlight on them next!

What’s your favorite Astra Militarum Regiment?
