Games Workshop has a new Lords of Excess Battleforce box for the Emperor’s Children. It’s time to do some math to break this one down!

I already wrote up some thoughts about the new Chaos Battleforce Boxes. Overall, I think they are good options for players looking to start these armies. The one exception is maybe the Khorne one — but only if you’re opposed to having a whole lot of chaos daemons in your list. Anyhow, today I wanted to take personal opinion out of the mix and just look at the pricing breakdown for these boxes. And to kick things off we’re starting with the Emperor’s Children.

10x Infractors $70

Total Estimated* Savings: $117

*I’m estimating the price point will be in the $250 range based off the Holiday Battleforce price point. But here’s a quick look at what possible price points could be:

  • $270 = $97 Savings
  • $290 =$77 Savings
  • $310 = $57 Savings

When you really break this box down you’re getting two boxes of Noise Marines, two boxes of the Tormentor (which can be built as Infractors) and a Daemon Prince. I said this previously but I really do think this is a great purchase for anyone looking to jumpstart an Emperor’s Children army. You’ve basically got all the unique EC Infantry in here at what will likely be a good deal.

On top of that, this could slot in nicely with the Combat Patrol to fill out some more elite options and give you another character. Plus it’s more boots on the ground. That said, I do think this list might be lacking in the transportation department. With all those infantry units a couple Rhinos or Land Raiders seems to make sense. Then again, the Emperor’s Children are kinda fast. So you could get crazy and just RUN at the enemy.

That said, you’ve got plenty of time to plan out a full army before you get this battleforce box. I highly suggest you take a look at the Faction Pack and points of this army.

The Battleforce will net you roughly 835 points worth of Emperor’s Children. That’s if you build them as listed on the box. That’s not an insignificant amount of points to start. Obviously if you’re serious about this army you’re also going to want to get the codex — that should help you figure out what Detachment suits this many boots on the ground best. If you’re really planning on hoofing it across the board, check out the Mercurial Host. Re-rolls on your advance rolls is going to be huge for them.

Oh and finally, I feel like I have to mention Fulgrim as well. Personally, I feel like if you’re going to start a Chaos Marine Cult Army you’re going to want their respective Daemon Primarch in your collection. It’s a big centerpiece miniature and it WILL draw fire for your army. You’ll have to decide if he’s worth taking over the price of (roughly) four Rhinos. Both offer protection for your army in different ways…

Are you considering the Emperor’s Children as your next army? This Battleforce may be for you.
