Time to grab 500 points and get up close and personal with these new Boarding Action Missions coming from 500 Worlds: Titus.

Boarding Actions aren’t a new type of mission for 40k. They’ve been around for a bit and they really push the action into tight corridors and claustrophobic spaces. They can be a bit of a brawl and it’s a great way to play 40k when you’re looking to change things up. Personally, I like them because they come with set terrain layouts and they feel very thematic.

I know some folks might not like the set terrain but to me it makes sense. Imperial Space Ships are built using the same components and standards. Thus the layouts should be fairly similar. Each ship might have it’s own “personality” or unique challenges, but for the most part, I’d assume any Space Marine Strike Cruiser would be almost identical to another one.

Anyhow, that’s maybe a topic for another time. Let’s get to the NEW missions coming with the new 500 Worlds books.

Wherever the Necrons are to be found there’s usually a tomb or two to purge, and the new Dread Incursions book that comes in the 500 Worlds: Titus set updates the awesome Boarding Actions rules to represent close quarters brawls in these neon-green labyrinths. So what exactly can you expect to see when you delve into this dark and deadly arena?

500 Worlds Boarding Action Missions

These new Boarding Missions certainly add a new spin on the rules for the missions. Divide and Slaughter basically makes the center “room” an arena where two warriors enter and one warrior leaves. Only they don’t really leave — they just stay there and wait for their next opponent! While that blood bath is going on in the middle, the rest of the field is a gun fight happening all over the place. Seems fun!

Another new mission is Take the Artefact. When it comes to mini-games I think this one might take the cake. There’s two sarcophagi to defend but the actual artefact is only in one of them. The Defender knows which one is the “real” one and they get too chose which of the four defending zone to deploy from. I think you can see where this one is going. The mind games you can play with this setup are many.

Mercifully if you’re the attacker, you really just want to pop the sarcophagi open as fast as you can. The tricky part is how you’ll commit your forces in this fight.

More Boarding Actions To Play

These two Boarding Action missions and 10 more will be coming in the new 500 Worlds books. You’ll find them all in the new Dread Incursions book with that set. It’s also worth noting that six of these missions will make use of the Tomb World set of terrain while the other six will use the standard Boarding Action Terrain. I hope you were able to get your hands one of those Killzones if you want to play these missions.

A couple of final notes for these new missions.

The Dread Incursions campaign pack contains four sets of rules for running quick campaigns with a variety of terrain types and mission structures, and you can further link them together into a sprawling narrative if the mood takes you.

This sounds perfect if you’re looking to go on a more narrative track with these missions. Linked games can be a lot of fun for groups to play together. But even if you’re not really into campaigns, this book still has new gameplay rules anyone can use. There’s new Ultramarine and Necron Boarding Patrol lists to try out also. So gather your forces and get ready for a 40k-style dungeon crawl!
