The Necrons aren’t just getting new characters with the 500 Worlds. There’s new Detachments to run as well.

Yesterday we got a look at the rules for the Nightbringer and Nekrosor Ammentar. Today we’re getting a preview of the Necron’s new Detachments and things are going to get a little crazy for Necron players. In total, GW is adding three new Detachments for the Necrons and Space Marines. But for now, let’s see what the Necrons are getting to bring to the tabletop.

Changing up your Detachments is a great way to have wildly different games with your lovingly crafted army, and the 500 Worlds: Titus supplement comes with three new ones each for the Space Marines and Necrons – all of which are also being added to their free faction packs soon.

New Necron Detachment – Pantheon of Woe

First up we have the Pantheon of Woe Detachment. This is basically the Monster Mash Detachment for the Necrons. What does that mean? Well, this one leads hard into running all the Necron Monsters in this detachment. If saw the rule for the Nightbringer and the hints at the other C’tan shard updates and thought, “Wow, I want to use all of them” well…here ya go!

As you can see Distortion Fields boosts the AP of attacks on enemy units if they are in range of the Aura. And you can also opt to take 3 mortal wounds on a Monster unit to increase the field to 9″ instead. That could be rather spicy depending on what you’re bringing with these beat-sticks.

Also, how about some specific enhancements for the C’tans? The Nightbringer and Void Dragon both have some neat new options to take advantage of as you can see above. Personally, I think the Nightbringer’s Quantum Goad seems pretty much perfect for them as they thrive in close combat.

And finally we have a pair of stratagems from this detachment. Mass Transmogrification allows your monster-fueled destruction to activate the Reanimation Protocols for a nearby unit. And there’s also the Disharmonisation Cascade which allows your Necron Monsters to really go out with a bang!

If you were more interested in running the Destroyer Cult for your Necrons then this detachment is screaming for your attention. It’s a flat +2 to the strength of all weapons equipped by the Destroyer Cult to start. Furthermore, if the Destroyer Cult units start to wrack up the kills, they can trigger a similar +2 strength bonus to other Friendly Necrons. Ouch.

For an enhancement preview we get the Destroyer Ankh. That’s kind of ironic considering that the Ankh is supposed to be a symbol of life. In this case, it’s a boon to destruction –s specifically for the Destroyer Cult. The bonus move and attacks is just a nice, clean boost.

Finally, we have a pair of stratagems to check out. Methodical Murder sounds like something the Destroyer Cult can get behind. The good news is that it’s not limited to just the Destroyer Cults in your Necron army. Who doesn’t like Sustained Hits 1 on their attacks?!

Then we have the Unnatural Aggression stratagem. This is basically a counter-charge out of sequence. With the right unit, this could really surprise and shock the enemy. Just make sure you choose the unit wisely…

What do you think of the new Necron Detachments? Keep in mind there’s still one more and we know that it’s called the Cryptek Conclave and gives units Anti-Infantry 3+ when they shoot! And these are just the tip of the spear…

Are Necrons about to make a big come back? Did they ever really leave…
