It’s time we take a look at the new Death Guard Chaos Battleforce coming soon. What sort of a deal with this one be for folks who can snag it?

All week we’ve been tackling the Chaos Battleforces that were announced by Games Workshop. The Lords of Excess for the Emperor’s Children, the Khorne Daemonkin for the World Eaters, and the Sekhmet Coven for the Thousand Sons. Now it’s time to take a look at the final battleforce box with the Vile Vectorium of the Death Guard! Once again, we’re going to make an assumption of the price point and go with $250 as a ballpark number. That’s not confirmed but I think it’s a good base line to work from. So let’s get breakdown this gift from Papa Nurgle!

The discount is roughly on par with the other boxes. So this should be around the same price point… Then again, trying to decrypt GW’s pricing policy for things is something no one seems to have figured out. Which is why this is still an estimate. That said I still think this box is a solid starting point for a Death Guard army. You’ve got two groups of Terminators, three Foetid Bloat-drones to cause problems, and a block of 20 Poxwalkers for your opponent to chew on. This is all very thematic and on brand for the Death Guard. So let’s take a better look at the points.

Vile Vectorium Battleforce Points

Once again I’m just pulling these points from the same place as the other three. So feel free to double check my math here.

Points-wise, I’m seeing a baseline of 825 points — that’s if you’re taking the basic Foetid Bloat-drones and equipping them with the Heavy Blight Launchers (which you can). It’s +20 points per Heavy Blight Launcher, so that’s another 60 points you could claim with this box. Anyhow, depending on those upgrades and the detachment/enhancements that should leave you with roughly 1100 points to play around with. Basically your options are still fairly open with this boxed set.

The Combat Patrol is a good next step I think. You’ll get more Deathshroud Terminators so you can bump that squad up to a full 6. Plus you’ll get two nice characters to add to your collection with the Lord of Virulence and Tallyman. Plus the Plague Marines and Rhino are always handy for the Death Guard. From there it’s still fairly open. You could opt for more armor like Plagueburst Crawlers or Myphitic Blight-haulers. Or you could snag more characters as the Death Guard have plenty to choose from. Typhus is one of my favorites. You could also swing for the fences and just get good ol’Mortarion. The Daemon Primarchs are always a great centerpiece model!

Personally, I’ve always had a grudging respect for the Death Guard. While I’ve never felt the urge to play them myself, I know they are a tough-as-nails army and can really take a beating. You can’t really underestimate them because they just keep coming. They might be slow but they will grind you down and finish the job. If that sounds like an army you might like then you’ll want to keep an eye out for this Battleforce box when it drops.

Slow and steady. The Death Guard will grind you down…
