We’re Birdwatching, Diving, And Looking For Dragons With These ‘Wingspan’ Games
From birdwatching to diving for tropical fish, and even discovering dragons, the Wingspan games have a wildlife sanctuary for everything.
Wyrmspan
Building a sanctuary for birds is cool. But building a sanctuary for dragons? That might be the coolest thing I’ve ever heard of. This game takes the original idea and gives it a fantasy spin with its own unique, gorgeous art.
During a game of “Wyrmspan”, you will build a sanctuary for dragons. Over the course of the game, you will excavate new spaces in your sanctuary and entice dragons to live there, chaining together abilities and earning favor with the Dragon Guild.
Finspan
Finspan is a lot like Wingspan, but it asks you to grab a scuba suit and dive into the water to look at fish. Players pick a dive site and discover fish as they dive deeper and deeper into the ocean over four in-game weeks. Discover fish, find eggs, and even help those eggs hatch and grow into young schools themselves.
In Finspan, the fish you discover over 4 weeks will generate a series of benefits as you dive deeper into the ocean. Each dive site specializes in a key aspect of expanding your research:
Wingspan
Of course, the original is a modern classic for a reason. Wingspan is the award-winning game where a bunch of bird watchers and enthusiasts tried to make their interest fun and engaging for all of the rest of us. And they succeeded!
You are bird enthusiasts—researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, and collectors—seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your network of wildlife preserves. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of your habitats. These habitats focus on several key aspects of growth.
Wingspan: Oceania Expansion
Similarly, the Oceania expansion adds another 95 birds to your now worldwide sanctuaries. In this expansion, some birds require nectar, and players are also given a new player map, new goal cards, new round goals, and a new egg color. Plus, this expansion has an option for a two-player cooperative variant of the original game.
Wingspan: Asia
Wingspan Asia isn’t an expansion; it’s a standalone game and can be played by itself or with any of the other Wingspan games. As a standalone game, it’s for one to two players, but when played as an expansion to the original, it will increase that player number to six or seven. So if you have a big group who all want to start their own bird sanctuaries, this game will add players and unique 90 birds.
