Age of Sigmar: More Ossiarch Bonereapers Rule Revealed – Tactical Tips & Tricks
Games Workshop has revealed even more rule for the upcoming Ossiarch Bonereapers refresh. These bones are ready for war!
This week we got a look at some of the Ossiarch Bonereaper rules and how their new version of Relentless Discipline will work. Today, we’re getting a few more tidbits of those rules. On top of that WarCom has brought in Anthony Magro from AoS Coach to talk about how they will handle on the tabletop. If you’re looking for those tactical tips and tricks I highly suggest you read that article. I’m just going to focus on the new rules revealed in the article as I can’t really speak to how the OBR will play with the new book — because I haven’t gotten my copy yet. Anyhow, let’s get into the new rules!
New Ossiarch Bonereaper Rules
Relentless Discipline Points are one of the first things that we get more details on. This wasn’t explicitly stated in the previous article so it’s spelled out in more detail here.
Each battle round, you use the Immortal Elite ability to select a friendly Ossiarch Bonereapers hero on the battlefield and generate a number of relentless discipline points (RDP) equal to the value on their warscroll. Select Arkhan the Black for 3, a Liege-Mortek for 5, or Katakros for a massive 10 RDP!
What’s been further expanded upon here is that you only get to select ONE hero to use this ability on. Having multiple heroes in your list does NOT stack the amount of RDP you’re generating. If you choose a Liege-Mortek you get 5 points. If you select Arkhan the Black you get 3. You don’t get 8 points for having both in your army.
So what’s the benefit for bringing more heroes? Back-up plans. If one of your Liege-Morteks die and you have another you can still generate the same amount of points. We also got a tease for the Manufactured Mind heroic trait that allows you to choose a friendly destroyed hero to be the target of Immortal Elite. I do wonder if that means you can take Katakros and a Liege-Mortek with that trait as a back up…
So what do you do with all those Relentless Disciple Points? We talked about this before, too. The short answer is you’re going to spend them on other abilities. We got a few teasers as to what those abilities were already. Now we have a list of the five abilities:
- Remorseless March – see below
- Impassive Retreat – Retreat and Charge
- Ruthless Extermination – see below
- Pitiless Assault – see below
- Inviolate Legions
The cost of these abilities will change based on the size of the unit that’s being targeted as well. That’s why you’d want more that 5 RDP per turn in case you were wondering.
We also got a few other rules teased here. Here they are in no particular order:
- Ruthless Legion is a battle formation – on a 3+ a unit that charged triggers Crit (2 Hits).
- Bone-tithe Shrieker – Manifestation (again) that causes -1 to ward rolls.
- Bone-tithe Nexus – stops enemies from setting up within a bubble around the terrain feature that grows every turn (21″ by the end of the game).
There’s a few other rules touched on in the article but we covered those previously. Overall, I think the Ossiarch Bonereapers are going to be a force to be reckoned with on the tabletop. They seem tough and disciplined with many inter-locking abilities that elevate them above their statlines. I can’t wait to get my hands on this battletome and really study them. The Ossiarch Bonereapers are going to reward planning and tactical play but also seem like they have a lot of tools to help you out in a jam. If you play them perfectly with your plan you should get the results you want. However, plans don’t tend to survive first contact with the enemy. Which is why I like an army that can adapt on it’s feet. Or in this case one that can adapt on the tabletop.
Planning is everything.
