Age of Sigmar: Thanatek’s Tithe Are Coming To Warhammer Underworlds
Thanatek’s Tithe, a group of Ossiarch Bonereapers, is coming as a new Warband for Warhammer Underworlds. They are expecting payment in full.
The bone tithe is demanded and Thanatek’s new Warband is here to collect. They are coming with a brand new Rivals Deck as well. We’re getting a look at what they are bringing to the battle today so let’s see what they are packing!
To help in his quest, Thanatek has brought some friends. Tukhar and Sekhmor are both Mortis Reapers, deadly assassins who specialise in eviscerating promising targets, and Xar-Tamok and Medeb-Ahk are Mornial caste retainers that each have a handy casket between their two heads. This is primarily to carry bones and mystical soul-stuff, but imagine how handy that would be for a trip to the supermarket.
Thanatek’s Tithe – Warhammer Underworlds
Before we dive into their rules let’s take a closer look at their miniatures!
First up we have Thanatek who’d the leader of this warband. Clearly he’s some type of Mortisan but I’m not sure what classification he is exactly. To be fair, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen some “custom” Ossiarch Bonereapers made for a specific role in Warhammer Underworlds. Shoot, even Warhammer Warcry has unique Ossiarch Bonereapers, too. Anyhow, I do like having one-off characters like this. Even if you’re not actively playing Underworlds, these are cool side-projects to work on.
Next up we have Tukhar and Sekhmor. These are brand new Mortis Reapers. I’m glad to see these assassin-type characters being used in this way. It seems appropriate for them to accompany Thanatek on some clandestine missions in Embergard. Plus, they’ll look different compared to other Mortis Reaper units, too!
The last two members of this warband are Xar-Tamok and Medeb-Ank. These are the “Mornial Caste Retainers” which is apparently a new type of Ossiarch Bonereaper. Again, not the first time we’ve gotten these types of units. Are they a tease of what could be on the way? I don’t know! It took a few years before we got a full Archer unit that was teased in Warhammer Underworlds…so who knows what GW is cooking up in the Bonereaper catalogue of units. Hopefully it’s a whole unit of these crazy looking bone golems!
Thanatek’s Tithe Warband Rules
Now that we’ve gotten a proper look at the miniatures let’s talk about what they can do on the tabletop.
Thanatek’s Tithe are a Flex-style warband, which means they can quite happily slay enemy fighters or jump on treasure tokens, depending on the situation. Their warscroll card has a few tricks up its sleeve (or it would if Bonereapers wore shirts) to help out when things get a bit violent. Both Xar-Tamok and Medeb-Ahk have the Retainers runemark, which means that Thanatek can channel his attacks through them.
Not only can Thanatek channel their attacks through the Morbid Retainers, they might also get to snag some cadaver tokens while they are at it. What do those tokens do? Great question. They can be spent to bring back slain fighters!
The Retainers are kind of like miniature Gothizzar Harvesters! And I guess that kind of makes sense. The recurion mechanics are an aspect of the Ossiarch Bonereapers so it’s nice to see them in Underworlds now. You’ll also need those Cadaver Tokens to inspire your fighters as well.
WarCom also had some tips about playing the warband. While they are a Flex warband, they do require a tad more planning. Knowing when and where to send in your Mortis Reapers to do some damage or sacrifice themselves (only to bring them back) is going to be a key element of this warband.
New Rivals Deck
Alongside Thanatek’s Tithe comes the Nexus of Power Rivals deck. It’s a Flex-style deck, which means it would pair really well with the new Ossiarch Bonereapers or another Flex-style warband, such as Borgit’s Beastgrabbaz. It introduces the covetous rule, which works well with both sides of the Flex equation – claiming treasure tokens and killing enemy fighters.

It’s worth mentioning that just because this deck is a Flex-style deck doesn’t mean you can only use it with Flex warbands. Trying it out with other styles is part of the fun of Warhammer Underworlds. That said, this deck does allow you to lean into the token and head-hunting nature of a Flex warband.
That said, I’ve got limited experience with this deck (ie, none because it’s not out yet). We’ve only got the main rules and these three cards to go off of so far. Still, I’m curious enough to give this one a run or two. What can I say, I’m a fan of the Ossiarch Bonereapers! Of course I’m going to run this warband when I get my hands on them.
Katakros, this one’s for you!
