The right kinds of magic items can make up for any dump stat. You just have to find them – here are some to put on your list.

Magic Items can do so much for a character. They can give you spellcasting abilities, increase your attack bonus, and some can even negate whole parts of the game. Some of the most powerful items out there do many of these at once by increasing your ability scores. These items are few and far between, but the right assortment can shore up any deficiencies.

Gauntlets of Ogre Power

These gauntlets make you as strong as an ogre. No more, no less. While wearing these gauntlets, your Strength is set to 19, which is the same as an ogre in the Monster Manual. The Gauntlets of Ogre Power have been around since the oldest days of D&D. They are an iconic item, essential for anyone who wants to hit harder in combat. Sure, in the latest edition, you will eventually outgrow them when your Strength finally hits 20, but until then, these are a huge boost.

Belt of Giant Strength

When you need to be stronger than an ogre, you gotta go for a belt of giant strength. This is the other part of the classic D&D magic items combo (needed to wield certain magic hammers), and unlike the gauntlets of ogre power, this belt lets you exceed the mortal limits – even the weakest sets your Strength to 21, and they go all the way up to 29.

Hammer of Thunderbolts

Speaking of magic hammers – did you know there was one that increases your strength? The hammer of thunderbolts is a legendary magic item that, fun fact, if you attune to it and are also attuned to either the belt of giant strength or gauntlet of ogre powers, you gain enhanced abilities. For one, you can instantly kill giants if they fail a save whenever you roll a natural 20. But, the hammer also enhances your boosted strength by a full 4 points.

Ioun Stones

What if you need to increase one of your “other” stats besides just strength? You might want to turn to the Ioun stones. Originally featuring in Jack Vance’s Dying Earth series, these stones orbit your head and convey a number of benefits – including boosting a stat by 2 (to a maximum of 20).

Bag of Beans

What if you want to increase EVERY stat? Then you want a bag of beans. Actually, ideally, you want an Artificer who can manufacture a bag of beans – that way you can plant ’em and hope to grow the stat increasing beans. These beans come in batches of 1d4+1. You eat ’em, and make a DC 20 Con save. If you do, your lowest stat increases permanently by 1, no limits. Just don’t fail, or you take 10d6 fire damage right to the esophagus.

Happy Adventuring!
