Goatboy here and GW has 4 boxes for the Chaos Armies on preorder this week.  Let’s build an Emperor’s Children army from their three boxed sets and see how good we can make it!

Building a 40k  army can be a daunting task so figuring out the best avenues to go when purchasing can help you not become a crazy person like myself – who has too many dang boxes to get thru.  This that let’s see what we can build out. Let’s look with test new Lords of Excess Emperor’s Children boxed set.  If you are just wanting to start an EC army and haven’t bought anything yet – this is an amazing boxed set.  In fact I think it is one of the better ones shown as you will use all parts of this box in any army you do.

Lords of Excess Battleforce – Army Core

You get out this box 20 Troop choices, 2 units of Noise Marines, and a Daemon Prince.  This is all great.  To get you an idea of what is in here lets put it out in points to see what you start with.

Daemon Prince W/Wings – 215
Noise Marines X 6 – 145
Noise Marines X 6 – 145
Infractors X 5 – 85
Infractors X 5 – 85
Tormentors X 5 – 85
Tormentors X 5 – 85

This gives you all the troops you basically need for most armies, a great HQ choice you will use, and 2 of the Iconic units from the army.  You get all of this for $215 give or take with online discounts.

Adding an EC Combat Patrol

Next let’s just add in a Combat Patrol boxed set as it is a pretty decent deal.  It gives you another good HQ choice, the rest of your troops you need, and finally two interesting Elite options.  I don’t know how good they will be but at least they will be fun to have.

To break it down you will get the following.

Lord Exultant – 80
Tormentors X 5 – 85
Infractors X 5 – 85
Flawless Blades X 3 – 110
Flawless Blades X 3 – 110

This is all yours for $145 dollars based on online discounts.  This has us sitting around $360 dollars so far,  and looking at a few things.

Next, Blissbound Warband Battleforce

This last box is something you can look for online.  I did find a few so it should be available if you want to quickly grab it.  It adds in your big Leader and helps fill out the army.  I think there might be some other choices if you wanted to go individually but I can show that at the end after this 3 box purchase.

There was a Xmas boxed set that came out earlier this year called the Blissbound Warband.  I am seeing it for around $215 dollars online and it does get you a ton of stuff for the army.

Here you can see you get Fulgrim, two units of Flawless Blades, and a unit of Noise Marines for that price.  This isn’t a bad thing and will fill out your army pretty quickly.

Fulgrim – 340
Flawless Blades X 3 – 110
Flawless Blades X 3 – 110
Noise Marines X 6 – 145

Putting The Emperor’s Children Together

Right now you would just be left with an “extra” Flawless Blades unit so let’s throw this all together.

This leaves a ton of room for any Enhancements you might like.  You would also look at adding in Rhinos or other options to help get your guys around the table top.  I would also look at how you could load up your HQ choices as well with more options as needed – like another Lord Exultant, Flying Daemon Prince, and even a Lord Kakophonist.

For the Dark Prince!
