Let’s get up close with Adam Warlock, Moondragon, and Quasar! The latest batch of Characters for Marvel: Crisis Protocol is in the house.

I’ve been waiting for this particular Character Pack for a while now. Adam Warlock is not only a new Leader option for the Guardians of the Galaxy but he’s got a long history in Marvel Comics as a sort of anti-Thanos. Plus we’ve got two more exciting characters with Moondragon and Quasar. Both them have also had a huge impact in the comics, particularly when it comes to the things happening in the cosmic-arena of Marvel Comics. Anyhow, Atomic Mass Games sent me a copy of this box to review so let’s get into it!

I guess that’s another trio of characters I can check off my wish list for Marvel: Crisis Protocol!

Adam Warlock, Moondragon & Quasar Unboxed

As with basically all Atomic Mass Games products they are all packaged up with bags. Personally, I’ve been using these as storage for the character cards and tokens. I’ve been able to organize a bunch of other board games with these bags, too. I figure it’s better to re-use them than throwing them out.

Anyhow, the bags have the sprues in one along with the bases and another bag for the character cards, team tactic cards, and the tokens that are used with Adam Warlock. Speaking of character cards…

All of these come in the supported languages once again. I swear, one of these days I’m going to use these to learn how to understand these rules in English and Spanish. Anyhow, the tokens are used with Adam Warlock when you use his new leadership ability.

I know these are hard to read but if you’re looking for Adam Warlock’s rules you can find them here. Also AMG did a deep dive into Moondragon and Quasar which I also covered. Additionally, as you can see in this set, you also get the latest versions of the Infinity Gems. With the exception of the Soul Gem. This one is the Bonded Version for Adam Warlock and you should probably take that every game you bring him in.

Next up, the sprues!

As you can see above we’ve got all three characters on their sprues. It’s worth noting that Adam Warlock and Moondragon don’t have any alternate pose options but Quasar does. She’s got the option for a hood or not for her head option.

So, how did I build them? Let’s take a look!

Adam Warlock, Moondragon & Quasar Up Close

I did get all of these assembled. To also be honest, I’ve already started painting them, too. I got them primed up and I started on Adam Warlock. I’m hoping to get him finished this week so I can learn how to use him better at a local event this weekend. I think the best way to learn is to play…so wish me luck.

As far as the builds go let’s talk about each one of these characters and the tips I had assembling them.

Adam Warlock was pretty straightforward. I thought this one would be tougher based on the photos but in reality he went together really quick and easy. The trickiest part was probably making sure I got the burs off the smoke effect on his base. And watch out for the staff. It’s not that thin but don’t bend or snap it.

Moondragon was by far the toughest part of this build. That’s only because of her “bubble” around her. The bubble is made of two larger shapes and then a smaller part that’s actually attached to her. That’s what gives her the illusion of floating. But those all attach to a two-part ring thing that is underneath them and also a ring that sits on top of them. Anyhow, getting all that to line up was a little tricky even with pegs/guides. It seemed like every time I got one of them to slot in, any sort of pressure would make it slide out.

What I eventually did was get everything lined-up and then sort of sandwiched it with the top ring. Bear in mind that you’re going to want to have Moondragon build all the way BEFORE you add in the “bubble” part of the miniature. Then with some micro adjustments, I was able to make the bubbles “walls” line up correctly. Once it’s all painted the seems won’t even be noticeable.

Finally, we have Quasar. This was a breeze to assemble. I thought this one would be tough but the energy arcs are all whole pieces. You just slap together her torso, legs, and arm and you’re basically done. Drop in the cape and glue in the head. Boom. Easy-peasy.

Cosmic Options For the Guardians of the Galaxy

Overall, it was the easiest trio to build but that’s mostly Moondragon’s fault. Still, I’m really glad I’ve got them done and I’m rushing to get them on the tabletop!

This Character Pack is out now from AMG and Asmodee. You can order it online or swing by your FLGS and snag your copy today.
