Blades in the Dark’s new swinging 60s spinoff brings mod vibes, revolution, and a whole bunch of new playbooks, on BackerKit now!

I have been excited about Blades ’68 for a while now. As the name implies, this is Blades in the Dark with a 60’s-era set of lenses on. So, I guess the glass is rosy and pink and groovy. It’s the familiar world but spun 100 years into the future. In 968, Doskvol was changed. A false sky and sun keep the supernatural horrors outside of the city at bay. And the radical, revolutionary vibes of the ’60s are in full swing, baby. New playbooks, spy games, and more await you within!

Blades ’68 On BackerKit Now

Blades ’68 is, as the creators put it, all about “unruly escapades in a dystopian retro-future.” You can get a real feel for it in the artwork. But it’s in the mechanics as well. It’s not just your typical do crimes for the sake of crimes. The new expansion is packed full of new playbooks and revolutionary crews, fresh factions and daring heists. It’s the Blades paradigm, turned on its side, all wrapped up in a 450-page expansion from the subversive mind of Tim Denee, whom you might recognize from Deathmatch Island.

In Blades ’68, you play “Radicals, Swingers, Intellectuals and Paranomalists” who are wrapped up in the turmoil and politics of the city. Some of the fresh new factions include hard-bitten fixers, ex-military Veterans, shadowy Operatives, and outcast souls sealed into robot bodies. The more things change, the more Doskvol stays the same.

“In the Swinging Sixties, there’s a plasmovision in every home, an autopod in every driveway, and the B.L.U.E. array keeps the supernatural horrors of the deathlands at bay. For average citizens it’s an age of science, conformity, and consumerism.

But you’re no average citizen. You know better. In Blades ’68 you’ll play Radicals, Swingers, Intellectuals, and Paranormalists. You’ll join forces with hard-bitten Fixers, ex-military Veterans, shadowy Operatives, and outcast souls sealed inside a robot body.

You know the streets and you’re not afraid of danger. The moment is now.”

A new expansion means a lot of new rules. Like a new set of “Special Procedures” for running the game, including new rules for Harm and Resistance, a new Trouble Engine to help track growing developments and unrest in your Crew’s district, and more options for character emerging through mechanics. I’m excited, if you couldn’t tell.

Especially since the BackerKit campaign has done so well already. Within moments it was funded, and has already doubled its funding goal, and the first day has only just begun. You can get some groovy rewards as a part of the campaign, including business cards for the factions, a Trouble deck, a map of the city, and more.

Blades ’68’s BackerKit campaign runs for the next 30 days!
