Warhammer 40K: Aeldari Corsairs Combat Patrol Pricing Breakdown
It’s time for the Aeldari Corsairs to get their very own Combat Patrol. But what’s the math look like on this boxed set?
Games Workshop showed off the four new Combat Patrols coming so today we’re going to dive into the first of them and do pricing breakdown. Now, we know that Combat Patrols are now going for $170. So, if that’s still the case for this one, we can estimated the value of the contents and figure out the savings we’re getting. We can also look to see what sort of upgrade options might be a good call as well. Now then let’s dive in!
Combat Patrol: Aeldari Corsairs
Contents
Void Dreamer Kharseth (based on named Aeldari Characters) = $48
10x Corsair Voidreavers (based on Aeldari Guardians) = $60
5x Corsair Skyreavers (based on Swooping Hawks) = $62.50
Total Estimated MSRP: $239.50
Total Estimated Savings: $69.50
Okay, so the savings on this one aren’t as nice as I was hoping. Still, it’s not a bad overall deal. What I do find off about this one is that it’s doesn’t really slot in well with the Aeldari Corsairs Battleforce box that just came out — and which is still available. Honestly, if you’re looking to really start a new Corsairs army get that one first. Why? Because it comes with Prince Yriel and Kharseth. Which is also why this Combat Patrol doesn’t quite fit with the Battleforce. I’d get one or the other but certainly not both.
Aeldari Corsair Next Steps
Obvious next steps for this army would be the Aeldari codex if you don’t have one. But more importantly (and also most disheartening) is you’ll really want The Maelstrom Books. Unfortunately, those aren’t easy to find right now. At least from Games Workshop. Alternatively, you can download the Aeldari Faction Pack for the Eldritch Raiders/Corsair Coterie Detachments and also the Datasheets for all the Corsair units. So yeah…maybe go with that.
Now, as not so obvious next steps for the army this is where things get a little weird. Honestly, you don’t have access to any of these units yet. What I mean is you can’t just go pick-up another box of Corsair Voidreavers or Corsair Skyreavers. Which really makes expanding this army difficult. But, assuming GW releases all these kits at some future date, then yeah, obviously you’re going to want to fill out some squads. We also know that Wave Serpents are going to be useful for this type of army, too.
Other than Wave Serpents, you might want to consider picking up some Rangers and/or Shroud Runners. We do know that those units will be useful in the Eldritch Raiders army at least. So having a few units of them ready to go seems like a nice way to prepare.
There’s also other classic Aeldari options you can look at, too. Falcons, Fire Prisms, and Crimson Hunters all seem appropriate. Keep an eye out for the “generic and fast” Aeldari kits because those slot in really well with the Corsair playstyle. You’re going to want to “shoot and scoot” or at least utterly destroy your targets so they can’t shoot back.
I’d really like to say “go snag some more Corsair Voidscarred units and a few Starfangs” and you’ll be on your way. But, again, you can’t get those individually yet. What really stinks about this new subfaction for the Aeldari is your only real next step for them is …to wait.
If you’re feeling impatient, I’d say point out a list first because you can at least do that. The Combat Patrol is around 400-455 points depending on how you build your Voidscarred/Voidreavers. I’d also recommend a plan for how you’re wanting to ferry your units around the board. One other thing to consider is how you’re planning on dealing with heavier armor. The Aeldari have plenty of answers for that. You’re just going to need to pick the tool that best suits your playstyle.
Once the miniature DO come out individually, I’d recommend getting Prince Yriel. If you’re playing Corsairs he seems like the main character for that entire army. Starfangs also seem useful based on their rules. Looking at you Hallucinogen Grenades.
I still believe this is an army that’s going to be a scalpel-type army. It’s going to be able to dissect the enemy with surgical strikes. But you’re dealing with a fragile statline. While the Corsairs do have some tricks up their sleeves to get out of a jam any seriously poor positioning is going to cost your dearly. Just keep all that in mind while you’re planning out this army. They aren’t the type of force that can afford to just throw bodies at the problem.
How would you construct an Aeldari Corsair army starting with the Combat Patrol?
