There’s a new version of the Tyranid Prime coming to the tabletop in Warhammer 40,000. This one’s got a Lash Whip ready to strike.

Players of a certain vintage will remember Lash Whips being the go-to option for Tyranids a few editions ago. Since then, we’ve seen them go through a few iterations. So now that the Lash Whip is in the hands of a Tyranid Prime, let’s see how it’s going to stack up.

This terrifying Tyranid is a battlefield leader, created to push forward into enemy lines at the head of a host of bioforms, and devastate the enemy, be they weak and fleshy Guardsmen or Aeldari (yum), well-protected Space Marines or Necrons (crunchy), or even mighty battle tanks (could break your teeth). To this end, the Hive Mind has seen fit to give it a variety of melee weapons suited to any task.

The Tyranid Prime (Now With Lash Whip)

You can see the Prime’s statline above and it’s solid. What I do find interesting about this updated version is just how many weapons it comes with standard. You’ve got 1 rending claw, 1 lash whip, and 1 scything talon. Once the Prime gets into combat you’ve got a selection to choose from! They each have a purpose and make the Prime a threat to many different types of targets.

Also note that the Tyranid Prime comes with Sustained Hits 1 for all their weapons and grants that to their squad. I also really like the Aggressive Leader-beast rule as it grants extra movement. Just stick the Prime in a unit that needs to close the gap fast and watch them zoom across the field.

Personally, I like the miniature and the pose by itself. While I’ve already got plenty of Tyranids in my collection, I might pick this one up just because it’s been a while since I’m painted up any Tyranids. Tyranid Warriors are one of my favorite units so having another Prime to lead that unit could be a good excuse to bust them out again. While the Tyranid Prime with Lash Whip isn’t exactly blowing my mind with crazy rules here I can at least appreciate getting a new miniature for the army.
