Warhammer 40K: Prince Yriel & Void Corsair Datasheets Revealed
Prince Yriel is back with a new crew and their rules are out now. So let’s see what the Corsairs are bringing to Warhammer 40,000!
The hero and self-imposed exile of Craftworld Iyanden Prince Yriel has a fancy new miniature coming soon. But perhaps more importantly he’s got a new batch of rules as well as some extra friends to bring to the tabletop.
Known far and wide for his legendary defense of Craftworld Iyanden against the voracious Tyranids, Prince Yriel has been a fixture of the Aeldari faction for many years. He returns to the full roster with a vengeance – turning any squad he joins into a potent close combat threat with his Piratical Hero ability. Corsair Voidscarred are already deadly enough due to the power swords they all carry into battle, and making them hit more often tunes up their damage significantly.
Prince Yriel & The Voidscarred Corsairs
Right of the bat we’ve got a pretty good idea of what Prince Yriel is going to want to do on the field. Have him join a squad and then get stuck in! Piratical Hero gives him and his squad Sustained Hits 1 and also adds 1 to hit rolls. That should let them pile on the attacks for sure. He’s also got some sneaky tricks for redeployment thanks to the Prince of Corsairs rule, too. While he is only toughness 3, he’s at least got 5 wounds as well as a 3+/4++ to help keep him in the fight. Prince Yriel is going to want to hit hard and then get away if he wants to continue to live his pirate’s life.
Helping Yriel and the Corsairs get around space is Kharesth. They are really handy for helping to avoid enemy reserves getting too close. Thanks thank to the Aethersense rule. On top of that, Fury of the Void can stack a nice damage boost for other Aeldari models attacking a marked unit. That also seems fairly useful, too!
The new Corsairs Skyreavers aren’t just a re-hash of the Swooping Hawks. They don’t quite Yo-Yo as much but they are pretty hard to pin down. They can pack two big guns for every 5 models AND are actually decent in close combat. I could see them dropping in behind or near softer targets or lone characters and taking them out. They seem like a scalpel unit. If you can master their surgical strikes they can be very effective.
Finally, we get a look at the new Starfangs. I’m still a little thrown off by their reverse-gunner seats but considering how much they whizz by the enemy, I can sort of understand it. They are also packing very useful Hallucinogen Grenades which basically grants Stealth to a friendly unit in range. That range is 36″ and just requires line of sight. For these fast movers, that’s really not much of an issue!
Your first crack at these miniatures will be in the upcoming Eldritch Raiders boxed set. It might be time to learn some sea shanties!
A Pirate’s Life for me!
