Do you need a little help taking objectives? It might be time to recruit some Red Corsairs to your army in Warhammer 40,000!

Huron Blackheart is a bit of a space raider himself so it shouldn’t be surprising that his recruits are pretty good at taking things. Today we’re getting a look at the Datasheets for the new Red Corsairs Raiders and their Reave-Captain. This is a nice one-two punch when it comes to aggressively taking and holding objectives from the enemy.

One of the first thing to note here is that while they basically have Space Marine stats, they are 3 wounds each. That extra durability makes them surprisingly tough to take out on the tabletop. Your standard issue marine-killing loadouts aren’t going to do the same amount of miniature removal they used to. Furthermore, you can pack in a Meltagun and/or a Power Fist in here for extra damage, too.

On top of all that, they do have the Trophy Takers ability. This allows them to gain an OC boost after they destroy a unit and it lasts the rest of the battle. Again, these Raiders are tougher than your regular Power Armored baddies. Once they get their hands dirty they also can bully squads off objectives easier. I think this is going to be a really nice option for CSM players out there. And even better when you pair them with their own Reave-Captain.

You can see the stats of the Reave-Captain above and draw your own conclusions there. I think that 5 wounds with a 3+/4++ is a nice character to have running around. Wargear-wise you can opt for a Plasma pistol and even go for a Power Maul if you’re looking to put down most marines in a fight with a single blow. Brutal Raider combined with the Power Maul does sound brutal on the charge!

Really though, you want that Raider’s Due ability for your whole squad. Re-rolling the charge for a unit against units on objectives is great for a unit that wants to take objectives. You can see how this feeds into itself. When a pack of these Raiders get within charge range of a unit on an objective it’s going to be bad news for the defenders!

I think the tough part here is deciding how to squeeze them into an existing CSM list personally. Do you take a squad with a Reave-Captain as a supplement to your force? Or maybe you just rebuild your whole army around the new Red Corsair options…

I certainly think there are worse ways you can go with this army.
