Goatboy here and I just want to say – it is about time we got some all new Daemon Engine. Hopefully the updated Defiler is just the start!

With the preview of the new Mutilators, Iron Warrior Warsmith, and the Defiler you have to think GW will unweil an all new Daemon Engine of some kind right?  Why haven’t we gotten a multi-build Venom Crawler kit?  Why isn’t there a brand new monster shoved into the weird fleshy workings of a robot?  Why can’t I have nice things?

Right now Daemon Engines are one of the main models for the Chaos Factions.  They showcase a push away from the buttoned down techno looking trappings of the old Warhammer universe and instead create this crazy evil machine life that matches up the grim dark aesthetics. It is something that is very 40k and it should be showing up a ton more within the game.  The only army with a decent push of them is the Death Guard with a ton of the Drones and other fun options.  Let’s think of 3 ones that would be amazing to have in the game right now.

Melee Daemon Engine – like the Blood Slaughterer

A close combat variant – akin to the Blood Slaughterer from the old Khorne Forgewold stuff or just some kind of angry beat monster.

This could be part of a Venom Crawler multi-kit that utilizes that old spider and then creates an angry assault spider.  You would give it some extra buzzsaw like blades, maybe a few more angry whips, and even some kind of Melta mouth.  It is completely pissed that it has to live its life as a weird spider thing and it’s going to come take your candy.  We could call the kit Spitecrawler so we would have it be a dual Venom/Spite kit of angry daemon engine goodness.

Ranged Daemon Engine – like the Ironstrider (but evil)

A cool shooting variety that is kind tall and weird matching some of the Admech shooting chickens.

I love the idea of going hard into the Dark Mechanicus aspects and think creating an angry Chicken Walker – aka Ironstrider Ballistarius would be cool to see built up.  You would have the Dark Mechanicus rider fully incorporated in and looking very unhappy with all the tentacles shoved in.  It would run around the table like a mad dinosaur ready to shoot chaos lasers or even weird auto cannon shells.  You could even create another version of it with a giant flamer option as it is sent out first to “bother” the opponent with flame and its constant screams of pain.

Support Daemon Engine – like the Canoptek Reanimator

A true support unit that would either be a walking altar to the chaos gods or some kind of aura farming monster.

I love the idea of creating these cool support units for armies.  I think there isn’t nearly enough of this and love how Necrons use it within their own ranks to help bring back warriors with their own version of a Canoptek Reanimator.  I think it is time to look towards non killing units and create some fun little idiot monsters that help their friends out.  I would even think you could mix and match it based on the God it is attached too with Khorne causing waves of attacks, Tzeentch protecting things with an invulnerable save, Slaanesh driving armies to go faster, and Death Guard to help corrupt the enemy as it gets near.  There is just a whole slew of stuff you could do with a support unit in 40k right now that isn’t just a character attached to a unit.

What do you think? Would any of these 3 Daemon Engines be cool to have in the game?  Would it be helpful to give more variety instead of just having a new infantry based choice?  I love painting up Daemon Engines as it is such a Chaos looking unit so why give us a few more that are neat?  You could even use these in other armies to help fill them out – especially lean armies like Emperor’s Children and World Eaters.

What type of Daemon Engine do you think Chaos most needs?
