The Daughters of Khaine are getting a new Spearhead box. Does this one have the goods to warrant a repeat purchase?

Is it time to start that Daughters of Khaine army you’ve always wanted? Well with new units and a new Battletome on the way it sure could be. Plus the Spearhead box is looking really useful. But let’s do the math to find out for sure.

Daughters of Khaine Spearhead Pricing Breakdown

Cauldron of Blood $89

Khainite Shadowstalkers $60

10x Sisters of Slaughter $65

Total Individual MSRP = $214

Total Savings = $64

With savings of $64 you’re basically getting the Sisters of Slaughter in the box for the price of the Shadowstalkers and the Cauldron of Blood. It’s also worth noting that both the Cauldron and the Sisters of Slaughter have alternate build options. Regardless of how you build them, you’re probably going to want a second (or third) unit of those just for the other builds.

So is this one a good deal? Dollar-wise, yeah, it’s what we’ve come to expect from GW and these Spearhead boxes. But is this one worth a repeat purchase? My issue with this box is the Khaninite Shadowstalkers. That unit can’t be reinforced. While they aren’t a unique 0-1 unit, I do question if they are really worth taking more than one of. Having a second unit of them is kind of a dead drop unfortunately. If you’ve found a use for two of them let us know in the comments because I’m not a DoK player. I also have never seen anyone take more than one unit of them.

I do think the models are cool. But they are basically a repurposed batch from Warcry. So take them for what they are: a cool single unit.

What To Get After The Spearhead

I feel like I covered most of that in the Battleforce Pricing Breakdown for the Daughters of Khaine. Most of that info still applies here. If you are jumping head first into the Daughters of Khaine pool then you honestly should go for the Spearhead and the Battleforce. Go all-in and get those boxes because they each have good savings on units you’ll likely want to use.

After that, and probably after you’ve got the battletome (which is also coming out at the same time) you should take your time and read-up on what they can do. They are a hard hitting army but you can’t just throw them up the tabletop. You’ve got to time things with their abilities and keep things in their respective auras to really get the most out of the army. Then again, that was how they used to play…the new Battletome might change things around.

Anyhow I still think if you stick to the basics for the army you can’t go wrong. At least in terms of what you can work on NOW before the boxes come out. Witches and the Endless Spells are really good ideas to have on hand. A second (or first depending on when you buy it) Cauldron isn’t a bad idea just for the heroes and alternate build option. Unfortunately, I don’t thinking running two Cauldrons is a good idea. At least you’ve got a new terrain piece coming soon.

It’s kind of like a second Cauldron of Blood…

Other than those options the core units in the DoK are pretty good. But it depends on what you want to build into. So again, you’re probably going to want to get that Battletome and read-up on the army itself. Sorry I can’t give you more directed advice about what to get after the Spearhead but I don’t have the book in hand so I can’t tell you what I don’t know. When in doubt, throw more Witches at the problem. That much I do know!
