Is the Crimson Lash a good “bolt on” ally to take? What does this Regiment of Renown really bring to the tabletop in Age of Sigmar?

We’ve been covering all the new Daughters of Khaine boxed sets coming soon and the final one we’re going to talk about is the Crimson Lash. This is a squad of Gladiatorial Troupes consisting of a unit of Sisters of Slaughter and a High Gladiatrix. We know the price point of the most recent Regiments of Renown clock in at $94. But is this one worth it? Let’s dive a little deeper.

High Gladiatrix $39

Sisters of Slaughter $65

Individual MSRP: $104

Total Estimated Savings: $10

As you can see this one is maybe not the best deal out there. But that’s only if the price point stays at $94. Looking at the most recent pre-orders, the Heralds of the Bone-tithe actually featured three units and was a much deeper discount at $94. Why did this box only get two units then? Does it make sense for it to clock in at $94? Honestly, we’ll never really know because GW’s pricing structure is a mystery. As I’ve written before, for anyone that thinks they’ve figured it out, I’m sure there’s just as many examples we can point to that are counter-points.

Regardless of the mysteries of the GW pricing structure, we can look at this unit’s point cost and go from there. Now, I do want to mention that these units are pointed two different ways.  There’s the points based on the units in the DoK army vs taking them as the actual Regiment of Renown in another Order faction.

Induvial Units:

  • High Gladiatrix – 100 points
  • Sisters of Slaughter 110 or 120 depending on equipment

Regiment of Renown = ???

Here’s the problem. The Regiment of Renown is unknown at this time. They also typically come with some extra rules, too. In either case, I’m betting this unit will cost at least 210 points and probably more than that.

The Crimson Lash Worth Getting?

If I were just starting a DoK army I do think picking up this box at whatever discounted price from GW is a good idea though. Getting a Character and a unit that are both going to be useful in your army for a discounted dollar amount seems like a good idea! If you’re just looking to dabble with the DoK in your other Order Army, then I could see this box being worth buying. It also slots in nicely with the Spearhead: Khainite Shadow Coven. And the same is true for the Battleforce box as well.

In fact, just looking at all three of these boxed sets as a whole, I think GW is trying to sell us on something. If you do manage to buy each of these boxes, I’m pretty sure you’d have an entire DoK army. There’s probably some wiggle room for expanding it but we can do the math on the points to verify it.

Let’s point out all of these boxed sets exactly how they appear to see what point total we arrive at.

  • Morathi-Khaine – 760
  • Slaughter Queen on Cauldron of Blood – 330
  • Bloodwrack Medusa – 150
  • Hag Queen – 130
  • High Gladiatrix – 100
  • 10x Sisters of Slaughter – 110
  • 10x Sisters of Slaughter – 110
  • Khainite Shadowstalkers – 120
  • Khinerai Heartrenders – 100
  • Blood Sisters – 140
  • Blood Stalkers – 130

Total Points: 2180

Well now, isn’t that interesting. I do want to also call out that some of these units totally overlap in the “0-1 Coven Matriarch” department. So keep that in mind. So you’ll have to get creative with your Regiment options. But the point is that each of these boxes combined would give you more than 2000 points based on the current values and the configurations from the photos. Again, there’s very little overlap in units other than ones you’d probably want more than one of anyhow. And those overlapping units can also be built as alternative versions. It’s almost like GW planned it…

Will that army configuration be any good? No idea! Well, that’s not true. I have rough idea that all those units together lack a particular focus or general battleplan. But I think you’d need the Battletome to really dive in and figure that out. Still, having all those units and options ready to drop in and swap out seems like a good thing if you’re just getting started. So is it time to start that Daughters of Khaine army?
