From ‘Cosmere’ To ‘Starfinder 2E’, Here Are The RPG Finalists For The Origins Awards
The 49th annual Origins Awards were announced at GAMA this year – and it’s got everyone from Daggerheart to Warhammer Fantasy RP.
We are in the run-up to the Academy Awards now. No, not that Academy. I’m talking about the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts & Design, aka the people who bring you the Origins Awards. At this year’s GAMA, the finalists were announced, though weirdly enough, the official Origins Awards site doesn’t actually have the finalists’ list out yet. However, reporting from Boardgamewire has all the details about who’s in the running for the Origins Award for RPG and RPG supplement (as well as the other categories) this year.

49th Annual Origins Awards Finalists: Big Names, Second Editions, And Surprises
Frst things first, let’s get right to the list. You’ve scrolled far enough, here’s who’s up for the Roleplaying Game award:
- Age of Vikings – Chaosium (buy here)
- CHEW: The Roleplaying Game – Imagining Games
- Coriolis: The Great Dark – Free League (buy here)
- Cthulhu Bay – MS Edizioni and Ares Games
- Daggerheart Core Set – Darrington Press (buy here)
- Land of Eem Deluxe Box Set – Exalted Funeral (buy here)
- Cosmere RPG Stormlight Starter Set – Brotherwise Games (buy here)
- Starfinder Second Edition – Paizo (buy here)
- The Bonsai Diary – Gene Koo
- Warhammer: The Old World Roleplaying Game Player’s Guide – Cubicle 7

There are a few surprises on the list. It’s little wonder that Daggerheart and the Cosmere RPG are up for it. But it is a delight to see The Bonsai Diary, a solo game about drawing a Bonsai and journaling what happens (which is the heart of any solo RPG) on the list. Of course, 2nd Editions have a strong showing here with Starfinder and Coriolis. And Chaosium’s new Age of Vikings seems to have hit the ground running.
If you haven’t played any of these, many are on sale right now because of the nomination. So if you’re curious about what goes on in, say, Cthulhu Bay, and its fresh take on the Cthulhu mythos, now’s not a bad time to find out.

Also in the RPG category, the RPG Supplement list. Another strong bunch of contenders this year:
- Advent-ure Calendar 19: Kitty Clacks Christmas – Black Oak Workshop
- ALIEN RPG: Rapture Protocol – Free League (buy here)
- Call of Cthulhu: The Sutra of Pale Leaves – Twin Suns Rising – Chaosium (buy here)
- Cthulhu by Gaslight: Keeper’s Guide – Chaosium (buy here)
