Marvel: Crisis Protocol – Spider-Man ‘Brand New Day’ Villains We Need On The Tabletop
Marvel and Sony have released the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer, and there are villains in it that we need in Marvel: Crisis Protocol.
Before we get into this one, I’m going to be talking about the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer. This is close to a trailer breakdown, so you can consider this a bit of a spoiler warning. If you’re not looking for anything to be spoiled, maybe don’t watch the trailer below or continue reading. Otherwise, let’s dive in.
Now, the villains in this list are based on the ones in the trailer that we know of and that aren’t currently in Marvel: Crisis Protocol. Some of these we’ve mentioned before, while others are new. And again, this is your last warning for spoilers. But if you’re still reading, you know what you’re getting into.

Mac Gargan – Scorpion
Michael Mando is actually reprising his role as Mac Gargan, as he played the same character in Spider-Man: Homecoming. However, he didn’t have the Scorpion sui,t which he clearly has in this version.
The Scorpion is a longtime Spider-Man villain and one that I’m still a bit shocked isn’t in Marvel: Crisis Protocol yet. I’m not sure what exactly the holdup is, other than some legal red tape, at this point. Now that we’re seeing Scorpion proper in a Spider-Man movie, maybe the Disney Legal Team will let Atomic Mass Games bring this one to the tabletop. That’s got to be the hold-up reason, right? RIGHT?!
Boomerang
Okay, so Boomerang might not be the most well-known villain in Marvel, but he’s a nice surprise. Honestly, he’s kind of like Bullseye, but ya know, with boomerangs. If you’re not familiar with the character, he’s actually got a long history in Marvel. He was first created by Jack Kirby back in 1966. Boomerang in the comics was an Australian-born Pitcher who got banned from Baseball for taking bribes. Apparently, this led to a life of crime. Also, if you can throw things with an unnerving accuracy, you played baseball as a kid. And if you also happen to be Australian, you’re deadly with a boomerang. Oh, ’60s comic book origins…

ANYHOW, I think he’d be a great street-level villain to add to MCP. We could use more Threat 2 characters, right!?
Tarantula
Now, I’m not 100% sure that this IS Tarantula. The costume is different enough from the comics that I can’t be certain. However, the colors match (close enough). And so do the foot-blades. Also, there have been a few different characters that have donned this moniker, too. So who knows which version this will be?
At least they still got those foot spikes!
The Hand (More Ninjas)
Okay, this one is a couple of things. First off, we already have Hand Ninjas in Marvel: Crisis Protocol. Elektra and Shadowlands Daredevil come with them as grunts. “So why did you include them in this list then?” That brings up my second point: Are they actually Hand Ninjas? I think that’s a pretty safe bet. We’ve seen The Hand operating in the MCU via the Daredevil show (specifically The Defenders show). And they are wearing the classic red Ninja outfits of The Hand. So why are they fighting Spider-Man?
So again, if they are Hand Ninjas, which are already in MCP, why did I add them to my list? Because I think it’s an opportunity to add MORE Hand Ninjas to the game. We don’t know who’s leading them in this movie either. That’s another character that could be added. Also, if you know how The Hand works, it’s one of two ways: They send in a single ninja to take out a target, or they send in EVERYONE. Well, three ninjas don’t make the hand. We need at least FIVE. Otherwise, those three ninjas might as well just kick back.
Hobgoblin
Okay, I know this is a fan theory that’s been floated around a TON since Ned’s last name was revealed as “Leeds” for Spider-Man: Far from Home. Before that, he was just “Ned,” and it wasn’t that big of a deal. However, for fans of the comics, this was a bit of a shock. Why? Because Ned Leeds was a reporter for the Daily Bugle, husband to Betty Brant, and was also revealed to be an alter ego of Hobgoblin. Sort of.
No! Don’t do it Ned!!!
This gets a bit complicated, “Because Comics!” but it involves brainwashing, retcons, and also a bit of magic. I’m not going to get into all of it here because that would be an entire article on its own. Needless to say, Ned Leeds has an association with the Hobgoblin, and that should be concerning to fans of Spider-Man.
But also, why is the Hobgoblin not in Marvel: Crisis Protocol yet?! We’re getting an alternate version of the Green Goblin before we get a single Hobgoblin? Seems like an easy fix. Just sayin.
