The updated IG-100 Magnaguards are unleashed on Star Wars: Legion. We got them and there has been a terrible modeling mishap!

Atomic Mass Games sent us a review copy of the updated IG-100 Magnaguards, and I had the chance to unbox them. So far, so good! Unfortunately, I had a terrible modeling mishap when I was building them, and that almost ruined everything.

The new and updated IG-100 Magnaguards box. This is a reissue of the previously numbered SWL89 box. The miniatures are basically the same, but the cards are all updated and refreshed for the current game.

IG-100 Magnaguards Unboxed

As with all AMG unboxings, we start off with the contents in the baggies. The sprues are in one bag, bases in another, and the cards in the third bag. Again, the flyer has the QR code that takes you to the instructions page for assembly.

Card-wise, there’s a full play set in the supported languages, and I used the French version to show off the art side of the cards with the points.

These are updated for the current version of the game, and this is actually a solid unit for the Droid Separatists out there. There are a few different weapon options in the box, and you can build 6 total miniatures with the components inside.

Sprue-wise you get two sets of two different sprues. They do stack quite nicely as well. There are loads of extras on the sprue so you can customize them quite a bit. Or replace parts as needed…we’ll get to that below.

IG-100 Magnaguards Upclose

Here’s where I would normally get to the part where I talk about assembly. Well, this time things went a tad differently than I had hoped. Long-time readers know that I like to use plastic glue for assembly. It bonds the plastic in a way that superglue just can’t do, and it creates a much stronger bond because the plastic basically melts together.

But if you’re going to use plastic glue, you’ve got to be extra careful. Because if you knock over your bottle, things can go sideways REAL QUICK.

What you’re seeing above is the three miniatures I was able to salvage together after I spilt my glue. And by “spilt” I mean knocked it over and created a chemical waste hazard in my hobby room. The stuff stinks to put it politely. Not only did it spill over all the sprues, but it also melted a bunch of details and ruined the miniatures.

I didn’t take any photos of the sprue-goo that was left because I was in such a rush to clean up my hobby table. Luckily (?), it wasn’t my first time knocking over my plastic glue. I had some paper down on my desk that was able to soak up the majority of the glue…but not before the damage was done. You can really see the effects on the middle Magnaguard around the base and the cannon. It’s not shiny because of varnish.

As unfortunate as this mishap was, I still wanted to show off this kit because it is a really good one. The poses you can make are neat, and with the various options, you can make some really interesting-looking Magnaguards. I wanted to show those poses off, but the bits got pretty messed up. That one is on me.

The good news is that you can learn from my mistake. And you can even pick up your own box of Magnaguards. But you’ll have to score them from a local shop because Asmodee is already sold out of them online.

Anyhow, I’m still going to use plastic glue. But now I physically tape it to the table when I use it. I lost a bunch of sprues and a full day of hobbying as I had to air out my workspace for a good 24-hours. And that was with 3 fans blowing!

Plastic Glue why are you so effective and yet so stinky?
