Star Wars: Legion – Republic Clone Commandos Unboxed & Up Close
The Clone Commandos have a new box for Star Wars: Legion! It’s time to send in the Clones that get the job done.
The Republicc Clone Commandos aren’t a new unit for Star Wars: Legion. However they did get a new box that updated all the packaging, cards, art, and the unit as well. Atomic Mass Games sent me a review and I was able to unbox and build this one up. I also have a bit of a soft spot for clones and so I’m glad to get to show this one off.
I always felt like the Empire did the Clones dirty. They might of been clones but I don’t think they Jedi ever treated them like they were disposable.
Republic Clone Commandos Unboxed
Taking this one out of the box we get the standard shipping from Atomic Mass Games. The Sprues are in one bag, the bases in another, and the cards and tokens are in a final baggy. Luckily, I didn’t have any bits break off in shipping this time but I do appreciate the bags for when that does happen. Also, on the flyer is a QR code that take you to the build instructions. But these were pretty easy to figure out. More on that below.
The cards in the box are full sets in all the supported languages because this is a multi-lingual release. It’s also worth noting that this squad can be built as “generic” Clone Commandos or as the Delta Squad. You can build them in multiple ways thanks to the variety of weapon options. Speaking of which…
You get two sprues in the box and as you can see above, there’s way more weapon arms than you’d use in this set. Each one of these troopers can have the different blasters/rifles. What is the same across each one is that they have one set of legs and a matching torso. So it’s really just the army/weapon options that change. You also get backpacks and helmets. Technically, those are specific to their respective torsos. But I’ll talk about that in the build advice section.
Republic Clones Commandos
Overall, I liked the whole unit. Building them was pretty easy. Each of the bits on the sprue are labeled with a letter and a number. If you clip all the matching letters that’s basically one whole trooper. Just match the letters and dry fit the bits. Easy-peasy. The only tricky part was that some of the arms do line up in a particular way. It’s not that hard but you may not want to use super-fast setting glue. Just so you can position them in place so they fit correctly.
I used plastic glue and that worked well. I also used super glue to attach them to the bases. I think it works better because there’s a sort of texture on the SWL bases and the flat feet don’t seem to adhere super well when using plastic glue. Or maybe they just didn’t get set before I tried to move them. Either way, super glue for the bases and plastic glue for everything else.
Republic Clone Commandos Out Now
The Republic Commandos are out now and in stores. You can also get them direct from Asmodee if you’d like. They aren’t new so if you’ve got the old versions you’ll just want to get the updated cards. Or if you want to run another unit that’s what this box is for!
