Warhammer 40K: 3 Things New Chaos Defiler Needs to Kick Butt
The new 40K Chaos Defiler already looks amazing but its rules need some fixes to make it truly kick butt on the tabletop.
The new CSM Defiler already looks amazing but if its rules aren’t going to be any good – what is the point? Right now a lot of armies have access to it and it isn’t being used beyond some niche players. The new Defiler needs some specific love to make it work especially with the push to have a base and how it interacts with the game currently. The upcoming 11th Edition might have some ways to fix it so will see if that helps with any special rules or cool stratagems we might get.
3. Defiler Needs a 12″ Move – At Least!
I have said this in the past but if it doesn’t move 12″ it can’t get out of a deployment zone or over one of the current area terrain pieces we see in competitive 40K. It just can’t get anywhere and thus whatever offensive power it has – it won’t get the chance to do anything. While having a giant tank guard your backfield to middle objectives could be useful, we all know proper placement of a trash unit can easily cover your home and still let the rest of your army work. If this giant crab monster can’t go do giant crab things to your opponent – then it isn’t going to be worth it to buy, build, and paint.
2. Shooting Needs to Solid – Even WITHOUT Melee!
I know we saw how it has access to two sets of Lascannons (NICE!) which could do wonders for armies like Emperor’s Children or the World Eaters. It appears to have a lot of shooting and still have access to some lovely claw like attacks which lets these armies have access to a nice piece of bully tech to help shore up their kinda squishy nature. If this thing gets some cool updates for their Legion counter parts (Rapid Fire Lascannons for the WE and some kind of faster speed for the EC) it might be a game changer for those armies. Of course will just have to wait and see if it becomes a worthwhile platform or just a giant piece of plastic that sits on your shelf.
1. It NEEDS an Army Buff Rule
I know you really just want it to do damage but I would love for this giant turkey to do something for the army other than just kill things. It needs to be a center piece that helps these detachments do something. Vashtor needs to love to bring these giant jerks to the battlefield. Perturabo needs to be selling a ton of these at his Daemon Engine dealership and doesn’t have to throw in any extra spiky leather seats and cupholders to get the Chaos Lords to buy. He doesn’t need to offer a 1.9% APR and first 3 Soul oil changes for free. These things need to be more than a clanky monstrosity and have cool rules for each of the Legions. I want to bring the the new Defilers to the tabletop, figure out how their fat base fits in my deployment zone, and then full send this jerk into your business.
As you can tell I love to paint Daemon Engines so I am exiting for this guy. I will at least get one to paint up red (cuz all my armies are red now) so I can use it with all my friends. It needs to be cool, angry, and useable so everyone has to figure out how to get rid of these jerks on the table top.
~What do you want to see changed in the Defilers rules to make you go buy up three of them?
