Inspired by D&D, the Dragonlance books will let you go on decades’ worth of adventures, even when your game isn’t in session.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonlance

If you’re not a book reader or just haven’t read the Dragonlance books, you may be more familiar with it as a D&D campaign setting. Dragonlance has been attached to D&D for a very long time, but one of the more recent iterations is this 2022 adventure book, Shadow of the Dragon Queen. It includes scenarios connected to Warriors of Krynn as well as introduces 5E characters to Lord Soth and his army of draconians.

In a world ravaged by war, the actions of heroes can have world-altering stakes. Defend the people of Kalaman against seemingly insurmountable odds as Krynn prepares for war. The Dragon Armies are on the march, their ranks swelled by ogres, minotaurs, and humans who seek a share of the spoils, while rumors of the return of the Dark Queen’s dragons swirl among the people.

Experience the Dragon Army’s initial invasion of the land of Solamnia, witness the creation of the infamous flying citadels, and face off against the death knight, Lord Soth.

Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight

This is both the first Dragonlance book and the first book of the Chronicles trilogy. Which makes is a good place to start if you want to start reading the series but aren’t sure where to jump in. Try at the beginning.

Once merely creatures of legend, the dragons have returned to Krynn. But with their arrival comes the departure of the old gods—and all healing magic. As war threatens to engulf the land, lifelong friends reunite for an adventure that will change their lives and shape their world forever . . .

When Tanis, Sturm, Caramon, Raistlin, Flint, and Tasslehoff see a woman use a blue crystal staff to heal a villager, they wonder if it’s a sign the gods have not abandoned them after all. Fueled by this glimmer of hope, the Companions band together to uncover the truth behind the gods’ absence—though they aren’t the only ones with an interest in the staff. The Seekers, a new religious order, wants the artifact for their own ends, believing it will help them replace the gods and overtake the continent of Ansalon. Now, the Companions must assume the unlikely roles of heroes if they hope to prevent the staff from falling into the hands of darkness.

Dragonlance: Time of the Twins

Many of the books are broken down into smaller series. And this is the start of the Dragonlance Legends trilogy, covering the Blue Lady’s War among other things.

Sequestered in the blackness of the dreaded Tower of High Sorcery in Palanthas, and surrounded by nameless creatures of evil, archmage Raistlin Majere weaves a plan to conquer the darkness—to bring it under his control.

Two people alone can stop him. One is Crysania, a beautiful and devoted cleric of Paladine, who tries to use her faith to lead Raistlin from the darkness. She is blind to his shadowed designs, and he draws her slowly into his neatly woven trap.

The other is Raistlin’s twin, Caramon. Made aware of his brother’s plan, a distraught Caramon travels back in time to the doomed city of Istar in the days before the Cataclysm. There, together with the ever-present kender Tasslehoff, Caramon will make his stand to save Raistlin’s soul.

Dragonlance: Dragons of Deceit

This is the start of the Dragonlance Destinies trilogy. Published in 2023, it’s a more recent series and follows a noblewoman who embarks on a quest that involves shaking up the established order, and a little time travel for good measure.

Destina Rosethorn—as her name implies—believes herself to be a favored child of destiny. But when her father dies in the War of the Lance, she watches her carefully constructed world come crashing down. She loses not only her beloved father but also the legacy he has left her: the family lands and castle. To save her father, she hatches a bold plan—to go back in time and prevent his death.

First, she has to secure the Device of Time Journeying, last known to be in the possession of the spirited kender Tasslehoff Burrfoot. But to change time, she’ll need another magical artifact—the most powerful and dangerous artifact ever created. Destina’s quest takes her from the dwarven kingdom of Thorbardin to the town of Solace and beyond, setting in motion a chain of disastrous events that threaten to divert the course of the River of Time, alter the past, and forever change the future.

Dragonlance: The Dragons of Krynn

Dragonlance: War Wizard

Finally, this is a standalone book that is available for pre-order now and is expected to be released in August. It follows unlikely friends whose adventures have the potential to change the world and is the start of an all-new trilogy.

The boy with a rare gift for magic was born in Solamnia, a nation that despised and distrusted mages. His father tried to beat the magic out of him. The knights threatened him with imprisonment and exile. He endured tragedy and heartbreak. Yet he persisted with his magic, for the sake of the magic.

One friend stood by him when others persecuted him, a young man who was studying for the knighthood. No one could understand this unlikely friendship. The knight was Huma. The boy took the name, Magius. The two would one day become famous in Solamnic history, fighting together to defeat the Queen of Darkness.

But that future is distant, far down the River of Time. For now, this is the story of an unlikely friendship that would one day change the world.
