Marvel: Crisis Protocol – ‘Crisis Card’ Stroyline Ideas We Need Mission Packs For

Atomic Mass Games is going doing themed Crisis Card Packs and I’ve got a few more storylines I’d like to see get the Marvel: Crisis Protocol treatment.

I was really impressed with how AMG presented the War of Kings Crisis Card pack. I even had a chance to interview Will Shick about the pack, too! Anyhow, what I really liked about the pack was how it was themed around a specific storyline from the comics. And how you could “play out” the story by using specific mission pairings if you wanted to.

That said, we’re going to be getting a new pack soon enough. This one is based on the Mutant vs Sentinel themed Operation: Zero Tolerance arc. Personally, I’m really excited about this one because I’m a big fan of the X-Men and the Sentinels. Bastion and Nimrod are just absolute menaces and I can’t wait to see how AMG translated this story into missions on the tabletop.

Q2 is here! The Bastion, Nimrod, & Omega Sentinel Pack is up for pre-order already. It’s slated for a May 22 release.

Anyhow, I wanted to touch on a few more storylines that I think would make for a set of really good encounters. So let’s check them out.

Avengers Disassembled

The ramifications of Avengers Disassembled are/were groundbreaking at the time. You had quite a few character deaths, Wanda’s slowly deteriorating mental state, and ultimately the Avengers, well, disassembling. The spin offs and storylines that came after were also pretty big events. House of M immediately comes to mind. In fact, I’d say that a huge chunk of the major events in past 20 years at Marvel comics can trace their origins back to this event in some way. Avengers Disassembled was the first domino that fell in that era of Marvel.

World War Hulk

Where to start with this one! Let’s just say that this is possibly one of the angriest versions of the Hulk EVER to hit the page. World War Hulk sees Hulk returning to Earth on a mission of revenge. For me personally, I just want this to be a Crisis Card Pack because I already know what character we’d get with it: World Breaker Hulk!

Anyhow, as far as story beats (and the Hulk brings the BEATS) there’s basically a throwdown with just about every major super hero group. Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and the Inhumans get a “talking to” from the Hulk. It’s how we got this iconic panel after all:

The funny part is I can’t really blame Hulk for the rampage here either. If you know what led to this throwdown then you can see why a lot of fans were rooting for Hulk in this one.

Maximum Carnage

Look, I can’t in good faith recommend the Clone Saga. Spider-Man fans will understand that. But I didn’t want to leave them swinging without a cool Spider-Man story option. While the echoes of the Clone Saga still ring through Marvel to this day, I think a better option is Maximum Carnage. Now, to be fair, this was a very 90’s comic storyline. However, we did get the introduction of the Carnage symbiote from it. We also got a pretty epic team-up.

Additionally, there’s also a bunch of other characters associate with this (mostly Spider-Man comic) crossover event that haven’t been added to MCP yet. Cloak and Dagger, Demogoblin, and Morbius to name a few. I could see any of them being in the Crisis Card pack for this one!

That’s just three storylines from Marvel Comics that could become Crisis Card Packs – which storylines do you think would translate well to the tabletop?
