Dungeon Crawler Carl is getting an RPG – and the BackerKit campaign for it has raised almost $5 million (and likely will) in its first day!

Rejoice, Dungeon Crawler Carl fans, it is time to feast – there’s a crowdfunding campaign on right now for both a tabletop RPG and a solo/co-op card-crafting deckbuilder of a game. That’s two great games, set in the world of Dungeon Crawler Carl‘s brutal-but-televised World Dungeon.

If you’re unfamiliar with Dungeon Crawler Carl, boy are you in for a journey. This LitRPG series is inspired by both lethal reality gameshows like the kinds you’ll find in Super Smash TV and The Running Man, or even Friday Night Fire Fight, or the “body lottery” out of Cyberpunk’s Night City. You know the deal: deadly game show, contestants forced to compete for the amusement of others, in this case, it’s an alien corporation. And the arena? A massive dungeon that various Crawlers are sent through. Soon, you too can be a Crawler and try your luck!

The Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG – Already A BackerKit Success

Let’s talk RPGs. The Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG is a tabletop RPG all about descending into the televised labyrinth known as the World Dungeon. You make a Crawler, develop a backstory, and pick from a whole list of skills and abilities that will be familiar to folks who have read through the series.

In fact, publisher Renegade Game Studios has been working to develop a custom RPG system for the campaign. You can get a taste for how it plays in this video right here:

“Based on the best-selling book series, this official TTRPG lets you become a crawler in the brutal, televised labyrinth known as the World Dungeon. Build your character from the ground up with nearly infinite combinations of backgrounds, skills, races, and classes. Roll dice, rack up achievements, entertain your viewers, crack open loot boxes, and try not to get killed.

Fight mobs and dangerous bosses across an ever-deepending dungeon that gets harder the further you descend. Craft cool and unique items, make up your own skills, and choose from dozens of races and classes. The System AI, gods, factions, talk show hosts, and thousands of other NPCs are all waiting to make your life interesting for quadrillions of viewers. Other crawlers might want to join you. Or kill you. Sometimes both.

This sounds like it’s going to be good, crunchy fun. With 30+ playable races, including the option to let you play as characters like Princess Donut or Florin as well as Carl, you know it’s going to be a little wacky. But then that’s what you’re here for.

You’ll also find tons of classes, subclasses, and skills galore – as well as rules for making up your own. The campaign has been a massive success in its first day. In the time it took me to write this article, it went from $4.975 million to $4.995 million – so by the time you get to actually reading this, it may well be on to a new milestone. Suffice it to say, between pledge exclusives, stretch goals, and more, this is going to be one to follow.

Now get out there and kill kill kill!
