Marvel: Crisis Protocol – Bastion, Nimrod, & Omega Sentinel Unboxed & Up Close
The Sentinels are getting a massive wave of reinforcements, and these mutant hunters are here in Marvel: Crisis Protocol!
I’m really excited about the latest release from Atomic Mass Games when it comes to Marvel: Crisis Procotol. Bastion, Nimrod, and Omega Sentinel are out and about now. If this were an in-game event, the Mutants should be afraid. However, I think these new Sentinels are about to be EVERYONE’s problem on the tabletop. But for now, let’s just admire how these miniatures look. Thanks to AMG for sending me a review copy! So let’s dive in.
Seriously, these guys look awesome and are a massive shot in the arm for the Sentinels Affiliation.
Bastion, Nimrod, & Omega Sentinel Unboxed
I really think I could call them “unleashed” instead of unboxed in this case. They represent the next evolution of the Sentinels, and when you combine them with the Prime Sentinels and the new missions…well, that’s an entirely different article. I’m thinking I’m going to work that up after I’ve gotten a few games with them under my belt, because I have a lot of theories, but I want to see them in action before I jump to conclusions.
Anyhow, the insides of this box are basically what you’d expect to find based on the label.
The cards are in one bag, and the sprues/bases are in another. I would also like to point out that Nimrod’s base is part of his sprues, but more on that below.
As far as the cards, we’ve seen these already. So there’s no huge surprises here.
That said, if you are looking for more of a deep dive on their respective cards, I did write those up already. Included in those articles are much larger and higher-res versions of the cards. The short version is that if you’re going to play with Bastion, you’re probably going to want to bring Nimrod and a Prime Sentinel or two.
And if you’re doing that, why not bring Omega Sentinel while you’re at it? If you’ve still got room, the other Sentinels are in Affiliation and seem like a good call…But there I go once again getting off track. Can you tell I’ve been thinking about running them?
Let’s see the sprues before I get distracted some more.
Bastion and Omega Sentinel come on one sprue together. Nimrod comes with his own set of two sprues as you can see above. He’s on a Large (65mm) base while the other two are on the Small (35mm) base incase anyone was wondering.
Now, let’s see those miniatures up close!
Bastion, Nimrod, & Omega Sentinel Up Close
This is one gnarly family in the photo. Overall, I was really impressed with the extra options that were included. I was also pleased with how Nimrod’s base worked to add all those extra effects. More on that below. Let’s start with the new Sentinel Leader: Bastion!
Bastion
I really like how this sculpt turned out in person. I was surprised to see there are actually alternative build options for Bastion as well. You can swap the head out with one that looks more robotic/battle-damaged. His cheeks have exposed robot bits. His forearms also have an alternate set of options that are more mechanical as well.
Another cool part about this one is all the cabling coming out of the ground and from Bastion himself. This one feels very much like the comics version, with a big nod to the X-Men ’97 series version of him as well. I really like this miniature!
Oh, and as far as build tips on this one: clean the miniature really well. You’ll want to make sure that he fits properly if you want all those ground tubes to line up correctly. I recommend assembling his body separately from the base and then attaching the main tube first. After that, attach the secondary tube, and if you’ve done it right, those tubes should line up cleanly.
Nimrod
Nimrod might be my favorite model from this batch. It’s honestly really hard for me to choose, though. All three of them are neat. However, I put the big guy on top because 1) I think he’s a great villain, and 2) The basing really takes the cake here. The energy coils coming out of the ground don’t actually have to touch his hands. They are independent of his fingers, which means you can paint them separately if you choose to.
Not me, though. I went all in on the build instead. I might regret that when it comes to painting him later, though. Regardless, I’m going to have some fun with this one.
I thought his build was surprisingly simple. The one piece of advice/tricky part to build was actually because of the base. The energy/lightning coming from his right hand actually needs to get glued into place before the one that goes to his left hand. If you don’t, it’s not going to sit on the base correctly, and you might end up with a gap. So just keep that in mind. Other than that, clean him up and dry fit the bits, and you’ll be fine.
Omega Sentinel
Finally, Omega Sentinel is up. This is another one that I think was surprisingly easy to assemble. I will say the cabling was a little tricky at first. My recommendation on that is to assemble her body separately from the base. Then attach the wires to her back. And then glue the wires in the base. It will all go together fairly smoothly at that point. Also, don’t forget that weird chunk of metal that her right foot is touching. The extra stability is nice to have.
Omega Sentinel also has a LOT of options as well. Her arms can be swapped out with more “normal” options, and you can also build her with a different head that has extra hair you can glue in. I opted for the bald look because I want to paint on the red/orange skin and the white accent marks. I think that verison look neat.
This boxed set is out now from Asmodee, and you might also want to snag a copy of the new mission pack that has the Prime Sentinels, too. I’m waiting on my copy to come in for those, but you can bet I’ll be doing an unboxing on them as soon as I can.
Marvel: Crisis Protocol – Bastion, Nimrod & Omega Sentinel $64.99
Since their creation, Sentinels have been programmed to hunt down mutantkind, and like their targets, Sentinels have also evolved. No longer thoughtless machines, Omega Sentinel, Bastion, and Nimrod have all developed their own machinations, strategies, and plans for both mutant and mankind. So while these may be the most effective Sentinels to date, mankind may also find itself on the receiving end of the Sentinels’ protocol.
The Sentinels are about to be EVERYONE’s new problem.
