Goatboy here and I have been playing long, long enough to make some terribad hobby mistakes. Behold my horrors & regrets!

Goatboy here and I have been playing a long time.  I initially started at the end of 2nd Edition back in 1993 (got to love my first box being an all Metal CSM box) and played until I left towards the end of 3rd.  I came back in 4th and have not stopped since then.  While I have been playing a long time I have made a few hobby mistakes in that time frame.  You can’t play that long without making a few blunders but let’s talk about my “dumb” choices.

Space Goats – I Half Assed the Goat Heads…

You all know me as Goatboy but for a few editions I was also known for playing a Space Goats army.  It was a counts as Space Wolves army that really got going when the first wiff of Thunderwolves came out in that old 5th edition book.  They didn’t have models and I got lucky that the old Beastman armies had a lot of extra heads left around when building out their lists.  This gave me a huge pile of stuff to work with and I just went with the whole – Goat headed Marines that were chaos like but played as an Imperial army.  I should have stayed playing Space Goats and never stopped throwing goat heads on my models.  I would have saved myself a lot of money and time as I could have easily shifted and added things to this giant idiotic army of nonsense going from “good guys” to true bad guys and back and forth.  I blame the shift into Legions and Chapters become more important in 6th-7th that pushed me into just painting a World Eaters or Death Guard army instead of a “Space Goats of Khorne” army.

Apocalypse… Lost

While I am upset I didn’t keep my theme I am still mad I didn’t buy 2 boxes of this one Apocalypse release – the legendary Chaos Tide of Spawn (seen above)! I have talked about how this boxed set was one of the best and with the power of Spawn in all the editions as of late I should have had a plethora of them to work with.  Never again would GW be insane enough to gather the power of TEN Spawn in a single budget-costed box! I even remember seeing one of these boxes in a story outside of Houston 10 years ago when I went on an anniversary trip to New Orleans.  I should have bought it then as I think this box was a 100 bucks and the only thing not useful is the small 5-man CSM squad in there.

My Sad, Sad Lackluster Display Boards

This is another one that is always a weird one.  A lot of events like you to have a cool display board and I have never mad a really good one.  I kept doing weird stuff with my bases in either an attempt to try something new or just wanting something that matches up with a color scheme.  I should have locked in my basing scheme, did small tweaks on it, and then make a really distinct display set up to allow me to always have something good to place my models on.  A lot of events give you extra points and while I like having a nice painted army i just never invested in having something cool to display this stuff on.  It is something I want to shift around this year as I’ve really just played World Eaters and feel I could figure something out cool for them.  We’ll see if I end up with something cool by the end of the year.

I Have a Daemon Prince Problem

Oh and I think the final one is probably not make nearly as many Daemon Princes as I have done.  It is especially an issue as they have changed size a bit and it’s probably a problem I have 12+ and unbuilt kits as well. I’ve started to push to have armies fit a paint scheme as of late to give me the most options and hope I can continue to do it as this year moves on and I start to really get mixed into 11th edition nonsense.

Whats your greatest hobby mistakes, foibles, and weaknesses?  What have you done to try and fix this or do you just continue buying more plastic crack?  Are we all just crazy addicts waiting for the new hit to work on something new.
