Star Wars: Legion – Dwarf Spider Droid Unboxed & Up Close
The Separatists Alliance is calling in a little backup. It’s a closer look at the new DSD1 Dwarf Spider Droid!
I hope you’re not an arachnophobe because we’re taking a look at a droid that’s a nod to spiders. Although this one only has 4 legs, so if you are afraid of spiders, just think of this is a really odd-shaped dog. Anyhow, Atomic Mass Games sent me a review copy, and I’ve got it busted out and built! This one was a little surprising, so let’s get into it!
Note: There’s only one miniature in this box despite the creepy(ish) artwork.
The DSD1 Dwarf Spider Droid Unboxed
As we’ve come to expect from Atomic Mass Games, we’ve got the goods in their own baggies. The sprue, base, and cards/tokens are all in their own bag, and we’ve also got the fly with the build instructions. Build-wise, this wasn’t too difficult, but more on that later.
With this box, you get a full play set of cards needed to run this droid in your army. There’s a set for each supported language, and you get quite a few upgrade options as well.
When it comes to the sprue, there are three different options for the weapon, which reflect the upgrades above.
You can opt for either the flamethrower, laser cannon, or ion blasters. Each option allows this droid to fill different roles. I went for the “default” look with the laser cannon. In fact, let’s talk about the build!
The DSD1 Dwarf Spider Droid Up Close
This one was really straightforward. There are basically two sets of two legs to build, the “body” that fits it all together, and then the “shell” or head. I think if you’re clever, you can magnetize the weapon option. The flamethrower might be the trickiest option to do that with, however.
The top “shell” just fits quite snugly on the weapon option, so, in theory, you don’t have to glue that down if you want to swap them out for the various options. That said, I think it’s probably going to paint up easier if you just glue everything down.
Again, this was a really easy build, so I don’t even have any pointers or tips for assembly. It was really that easy and pretty hard to mess up. If you dry fit the bits, it should all become very clear on how to assemble this one, even without the instructions. Maybe keep those nearby just incase though.
This little guy is out now and available from Asmodee or from your FLGS! So snag one and add one (or more) to your Separatists Army!
Star Wars: Legion – DSD1 Dwarf Spider Droid $29.99
DSD1 Dwarf Spider Droids were favored by the Separatist Alliance for rugged durability and ease of manufacture. These four-legged, dome-shaped mechanical arachnids featured powerful, centrally mounted armaments capable of fulfilling a wide variety of battlefield roles.
I ain’t afraid of no SPIDER!
