The Adeptus Sororitas enter the fray in the latest Warhammer 40k 11th Edition Faction Focus.

The second week of Faction Focus blogs has arrived, led by the fanatical warriors of the Adeptus Sororitas. As per usual, Games Workshop kicks things off with a brief video overview and a deeper examination of three new detachments available to the battle sisters.

Chorus of Condemnation

The Chorus of Condemnation zeroes in on just two units, the Seraphim and Zephyrim. Your jump pack equipped short-mid range firepower gain a number of benefits through this detachment, particularly in regards to spotting hidden units.

Angelic Judgement is the core of this detachment’s rules set. With Condemnatory Psalms, your flying infantry can tag enemy units as condemned, increasing their detection range by +3″. This benefits your forces in a number of ways. First and foremost, your flying infantry can keep a healthy distance from their targets while remaining within range to fire even their multi-meltas. Even hidden assault troops will be vulnerable to flamer attacks with limited recourse for counter attack. Secondarily, however, that condemned bonus applies to your whole army, so your seraphim can receive long-range support from back-field units.

Your heavy-hitting canoness with Jump Pack is the beneficiary of this unique enhancement. Deep Strike has seen some improvements this edition, requiring you place models only 8″ from the enemy. With this enhancement your Canoness will readily find landing zones from which to assault whichever section of the battlefield you desire.

Combined arms planning seems to be a key part of 11th edition game design and this detachment-specific enhancement speaks to that goal. Spend 1 CP and your Exorcist tank gains +1 to hit against an enemy target within 9″ of one of your Seraphim or Zephyrim units. I’m really digging this sort of addition to the game. It rewards thematic list-building and clever tactical play without feeling like the gameplay you might find in a CCG.

Sacred Champions

The already elite Celestian Sacresants are the focus of this detachment which turns them into truly impressive combatants. This detachment looks like it might become a mainstay choice for Sororitas players looking to focus on close-combat superiority.

Look, I love a fancy detachment with complex rules but who can argue with just straight-up giving one of your best unit types a universal +1 to BS and WS? You’re looking at an absolute pile of melee attacks hitting on a 2+ most of the time and that will probably convert to some serious damage.

If you’ve chosen this detachment chances are good that your list invests heavily in Sacresant units. Litter this enhancement throughout them and gain 10 OC for every full unit you’ve got (max of 3, of course). This could be a real game-winner since it’s a way to increase a unit’s OC without depending on an attached hero.

Sacresants are one of the toughest units available to Sororitas players but they’re very vulnerable to mortal wounds. This unique enhancement is here to help buoy them through a rough turn, granting a 5+ Feel No Pain against mortal wounds for the rest of the phase. A Sacresant-heavy army is going to become very, very difficult to dent.

Sanctified Orators

The final detachment in today’s Faction Focus is a departure from the previous two. Offering fewer but more powerful benefits, the Sanctified Orators detachment is laser-focused on buffing your Sororitas Characters.

This detachment offers a pair of simple, but broadly powerful benefits: army-wide +1 LD for your characters and unique enhancements that don’t count toward your total allotment. It sounds like Battleshock is going to be harder to shake in this edition, so that universal Leadership bonus could be a really big deal.

The delightfully difficult-to-pronounce Hagiomnifex means something like “Maker of Saints” if my terrible Latin is correct. Up to three units can take this enhancement, which again, does not count against your army-wide total. A variety of powerful abilities are there for you to choose from at the start of your turn. Rite of Revelation will obviously pair nicely with the Chorus of Condemnation detachment’s bonuses but all of these options seem situationally useful.

We’re chewing through these Faction Focus articles like a chainsword through soft flesh. It’s a trend that will continue tomorrow with the promise of a look at the World Eaters.

We know tomorrow is World Eaters and that Death Guard will be later in the week, but where are my Aeldari!?
