Goatboy here with a chat about the new Chaos Focus with Chaos Space Marines and Chaos Daemons.  Here’s how good the Ruinous Powers look to be in 11th Edition.

The big thing is that we are seeing Chaos Daemons left as their own little thing instead of just getting shoved into different Chaos Factions.  I like what we are seeing and I am interesting in using seeing these as well as any tweaks the army is going to have.

The first thing is the best bit of info that some of the CSM detachments are not going to be able to take these aux detachments.  I am guessing Pactbound is going to be left alone but I am sure some of the other ones like Creations of Bile.  We’ll just have to wait and see.  The other big win is that Dark Pacts are staying and it seems the army works pretty much the same way.

Cabals of Chaos

The three detachments are pretty interesting as they are set up to help push some army choices in the army.  The Cabal of Chaos looks like a shift from the old detachment that wasn’t taken and instead gives it an Aux type of set up to help combine it with other armies.  I like that idea a lot as it seems to help you utilize some of the cool intersections with increase strength to weapons and better Daemon Princes. I am pretty interested in this as I am sure there are other options in there and cool upgrades we can use with our units.

Devotees of Destruction

Devotees of Destruction is the nice little Iron Warriors tweak that seems neat.  It pushes Obliterators and Havocs to be a better shooting platform.  I wonder how powerful these guys will be in the new edition and how insane these Havocs can be if they keep their ignore all modifiers.  They gain the Heavy keyword which has some tweaks to it but lets the army get a +1 to hit a lot of the time if that unit has moved more than 3”, is unengaged, or not just set up this turn.  The shift to unengaged key is to help remove the old ability for Tanks to just be in combat and get +1 to hit just for being heavy and not getting to move while in combat.  I love the new Warpsmith enhancement that lets you heal models if you kill something and gets a reroll for Dark Pacts as Havocs normally can’t get an ICON to use.

Murdertalon Raiders

Murdertalon Raiders is another new option to push Nightlords style of rules into your army.  Now infantry that flies gets the old Nightlord detachment rules that gives you reroll hits of 1 vs Battleshocked or half-strength and if they are attacked back the enemy gets -1 to hit.  I like this one as if you are able to take it on a detachment that might have a stronger bit of close combat option you can start to stack a few rules on top of the Jump infantry options.  Raptors getting extra attacks with something maybe like Creations of Bile or maybe even Veterans of the Long War.

Chaos Daemons Staying Put

The Chaos Daemons don’t look to be going anywhere and it’s pretty interesting.  They are really looking at how they play with shifting some of their movement options.  They have so many Calvary units that have fat bases so shifting things like being able to fallback and charge as well as having 3” engagement range.  Both of those are going to be good to get Bloodcrushers into the enemy and activating their rules.

We also have a new keyword in Mobile which I am sure lets you move through terrain.  I wonder how many other things will gain that keyword or ability in there army.  I am looking at you Fulgrim with too many rules to try and get you to ignore terrain.

The other Daemon options are interesting and we have to see what the Stratagems do.  Right now the army is so heavy focused at the top end with the Greater Daemons and other options.  I also wonder if these little options might be able to be taken with the legion options?  They are pushing a bit more with bringing back Loci options for the midlevel characters by granting LD and more OC.  This is pretty good to help them pass their checks and regain some wounds etc.

Warptide sounds pretty neat as it gives all your Battleline options the ability to advance/shoot/charge which is pretty cool.  This is very powerful in the Shadow Legion detachment and I wonder if that stays around or shifts into a small extra detachment.  I think having your Daemonettes getting advance and charge would be pretty fun.  I really like how this has a Detachment has a 3 wound heal which could be really fun in a turn where you pass your LD to gain some wounds and then heal your unit again to really push this into an interesting time for the army.

Overall this is a bunch of interesting stuff.  I really can’t wait to see what detachments can use these and how this all interacts with the Ally system we currently have in 40K.  I wonder if this will just move into detachments that let you take X amount of points for these small things or we just live in an Ally world like we do now.  It will be an interesting time for sure.  I can’t wait to see the Legion books new updates that will hopefully come out next week.
