Warhammer 40k: Indulge Your Desires With The Emperor’s Children In The Latest Faction Focus
The Emperor’s Children take the stage with a look at their new detachments in 11th Edition.
The staff at Games Workshop have shared an excess of new detachments for the Emperor’s Children today. Okay, it’s just the usual three, but I’m sure they were posted with suitably excessive zeal. A brief video accompanies the article for a deeper dive into the rules.
Elegant Brutes
Focused narrowly on the legion’s hulking Terminators, Eager to Kill is a great detachment-wide bonus. A flat +1 to charge rolls on the turn they either Deep Strike or disembark from a vehicle will make them very reliable killers, indeed. I like the way this contrasts with the recently previewed Red Butchers detachment for World Eater terminators. Even the heaviest armored warriors of the Emperor’s Children are relatively quick in comparison, and it speaks to the character of the army.
This enhancement can further augment up to three of your Terminator squads with SUSTAINED HITS 1. Considering that this is applied to both their ranged and close combat attacks it’s a really strong option. Emperor’s Children terminators will produce an astonishing volume of hits like this.
This final reveal for the detachment is a big one. Even with +1 on their charge rolls even Emperor’s Children are on the slower side, and being able to reposition for a secondary Deep Strike could be massive in the objective-heavy new edition. Deep Strike them in, wipe out a hard target, Warp Plunge them out, rinse, repeat. Brutal.
Frenzied Host
The Frenzied Host provides buffs to the superlative warriors who make up the core infantry of an Emperor’s Children arm. Tormentors and Infractors get their day in the sun.
A straight bonus of +1 S for your battle line units when they advance or fall back is a solid little bonus. No matter where you need them they’re going to be able to displace and hit harder while they do it.
An Enhancement for your Lord Exultant, +1 AP seems a little lackluster at first glance as the model’s only ranged attack comes from a pistol. Crucially, however, this bonus applies to the entire unit to which the Lord Exultant is attached. This could really add up on a unit of something like Tormentors!
I like this stratagem a lot. Emperor’s Children are not the toughest of the Chaos Space Marines (which means they’re still tougher than a lot of other armies) and this can situationally give them a little extra resilience. We know objective terrain is going to be very important in the new edition and this should help your battleline troops make a stand long enough for heavy support.
Spectacle of Slaughter
The Flawless Blades are peerless warriors following a regimen of better living through chemistry in between showing off their sick moves in short form vidcasts. This detachment makes them even better, though, they’d argue they were already perfect.
Fights First. That’s it, that’s the detachment bonus and it seems like a solid one! They’re almost always going to get their hits in first, with their high WS and volume of attacks. Most targets will have few models left with which to strike back.
Your Flawless Blades are elite swordsmen, but unlike their terminator brethren they are less likely to enjoy a Deep Strike or transport. Being able to add +2″ M to a squad or two could be a huge deal in getting them across the tabletop in one piece.
This is a really interesting stratagem. It’s always a bummer when your opponent manages to screen his juiciest targets from your elites with cannon fodder. Being able to breeze right through a screening unit to the soft underbelly of your opponent’s force could be a game-winner.
