Warhammer 40k: Jump Into 11th Edition With New Combat Patrol, Terrain, And Mission Decks
Get started fast with these new supplements coming to the new edition of Warhammer 40k!
Games Workshop has been releasing a steady stream of 11th edition product previews, but until now, it’s all focused on the upcoming Armageddon box set. That changes today with a first look at the supplements, which will follow fast on the heels of Armageddon in June.
Combat Patrol Companion
I’m not gonna lie, I’m pretty excited about this. Combat Patrol is one of my favorite things about 40k these days, but I have preferred its cousin format, Spearhead, in Age of Sigmar. This book promises a ton of setting material, hobby tips, and a general overview of the Warhammer 40,000 setting. It looks to be aimed at introducing new players to the game, but few other details are available. I hope we’ll see the format revamped into something a little more engaging, like Spearhead, but for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Terrain Area Set
One of the upcoming edition’s innovations is standardized terrain footprints, and this product provides a starting point for the new battlefields. 16 double-sided card templates are included in the set, providing a quick way to start playing. The footprints shown look to be vaguely Armageddon-themed with industrial ruins and dusty rubble. Layer them with your terrain, and you’re immediately in business with this edition’s easily identified objectives.
Core Rulebook, Chapter Approved Mission Deck, and Dominatus Deck
The final set of reveals is unsurprising but critical, being the independent release of the core book and card decks included in the Armageddon box set. Where the box set book sports a Blood Angel on its cover, the general release book is adorned with an Ultramarine, but otherwise, the contents are the same. The same goes for the card decks, which feature different box designs but identical contents.
These products will be available for pre-order soon after the Armageddon box set, presumably in late June or early July.
What kind of changes do you think are coming to Combat Patrol?
