Huge LEGO ‘Game of Thrones’ Red Keep Has 125,000 Pieces – Is A Nice House For Your Dragons

This massive LEGO Red Keep includes thousands of pieces and is fully motorized to replicate the show’s opening credits.

The Red Keep is one of the most iconic settings in Game of Thrones. It is the royal place of the Seven Kingdoms and is where the Iron Throne is located. First built by Aegon the Conqueror not long after his conquest, it has served as the seat of government for the Seven Kings since then. Towering over King’s Landing from atop Aegon’s High Hill, it is a massive and imposing structure.

The Castle has been added to over the years and includes many different buildings, keeps, and towers. It is famously riddled with secret passages. Catacombs and dungeons can be found beneath it. It’s one of the most important locations in the Seven Kingdoms and in Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire/Blood of the Dragon.

LEGO Red Keep

Today, we’ve got one of the most unique and impressive versions of the Red Keep you’ll ever see. Now we’ve covered other LEGO Red Keep MOCs before. However, this one is really special. Built by Claus-Marc Hahn from BricksCreations (you can find them here), this build used over 125,000 pieces. That alone would be super impressive, but what really sets this castle apart is that it’s motorized.

Now you might be a little confused about what a motorized castle is. I mean, castles are normally pretty static, right? Wel,l if you recall the iconic opening of the Game of Thrones, it has all the various castles and landmarks of the world popping up and spinning and such. And well, you get the idea.

That’s right ,this whole LEGO Red Keep is rigged to move and spin like the opening from the show! It’s really amazing. Now there is a trade-off here, the castle itself has a really cool outside, but doesn’t really have an interior, as that’s taken up by gearing and the like. A lot of the brick count is also in the massive base housing engines and everything. There are cool details, but this build is as much an engineering marvel as it is a faithful recreation of the setting for the shows.

Build Your Own Castle

Sadly, LEGO hasn’t quite gotten around to making official Game of Thrones sets (not family-friendly enough?). However, they do make castles. The theme isn’t being supported as much as it used to be, but there are still sets being made, like this Medieval Horse Knight Castle 3-in-1 Creator set (31168). Build a castle with a movable drawbridge, great hall, stable, smithy, secret treasure chest, king’s bedroom, writing room, and 2 tower terraces. Or you can choose a jousting tournament with a small castle or a medieval town with a windmill.
