Huge LEGO ‘Lord Of the Rings’ Isengard Has Over 200,000 Pieces – Will Build An Army Worthy of Mordor
This massive LEGO Isengard MOC includes thousands of pieces, is nearly nine feet tall, and is packed with fun easter eggs.
There are few more iconic fantasy settings than The Lord of the Rings. It’s a grand setting for a grand and timeless tale. It’s also a setting filled with many iconic locations, cities, and fortresses. One of the standouts among them is Isengard and the Tower of Orthanc. Home to the wizard Saruman, it is indeed one of the two towers that the second book takes its name from, and is central to the plot.
Like the City of Gondor, Orthanc was built by the survivors of Numenor as a fortress. Over 500 feet tall and built of a black stone that no known weapon could harm, Orthanc and Isengard around it served to guard the fords of the River Isen.
As the power of Gondor waned, the land in the area was transferred and eventually became part of the Kingdom of Rohan. Eventually, the tower was given to the Wizard Saruman and became his base. After his fall to evil, it became the center of an industrial hell from which he planned his conquests.

Now LEGO has made an official Orthanc set (10237–1) in the past, though it is long out of production. We’ve also covered another large Orthanc MOC. However, this build by Brendan McMahon has got to take the cake. It not only includes the tower of Orthanc itself but also a section of the grounds of Isengard. And this build is massive. Brendan worked on and off on it for around 10 years, and it uses up over 200,000 pieces.
The build is huge. The main tower of Orthanc rises nearly 9 ft tall, towering over anywhere it’s displayed. By Brendan’s math that actually puts the tower at minifig scale, which is pretty amazing. You can check him out here.
It’s not just the scale of the build that’s amazing, but all the details that have gone into it. From the front you see part of the Isengard ringwall and the grounds. This is shows Isengard as it would have appeared before Saruman went full evil. Here you have several nods to scenes from the books and movies, such as Gandalf arriving for council.
As you move towards the back the scenery slowly transforms with Orcs and Uruks chopping down trees to fuel the industry of Isengard. At that back that industry is fully on display with the breeding pits, mines and forges of Isengard fully showcased. Going even further in the timeline you’ve got scenes from the Ent attack.
The tower itself has a fully detailed interior with lots of little scenes and easter eggs. All of that leads up to the top where Gandalf is escaping via eagle. To take things just to the next level the whole set up is lighted, really blowing us away. This is a heck of a build!

Build Another Famous LoTR Tower
The 5,471-piece build of Sauron’s Barad Dur is split into four main sections; the tower section is fully modular. The dark tower features a throne room with a complement containing a map and a ladder to the top floor. The 4th floor is home to Mouth of Sauron’s study, while the 5th floor houses a tower library with a rotating ladder. At the summit of the tower is the Eye of Sauron, which rotates in various directions and features a light brick to make the eye glow.
