Marvel: Crisis Protocol – 5 Characters To Take With Sentinels

The Sentinels are here. But who should you take to help fill out that roster? Here are a few suggestions for Marvel: Crisis Protocol!

I’m a big fan of the Sentinels faction right now. I think with the new missions coming out, they are about to be a real problem. I mean that in a “let’s shake-up the meta” kind of way and not a “the game is borked now” way. I think there are ways to deal with them (hit them…A LOT). But for now, I want to talk about who you could add to that roster to round things out. Here are a few characters I’ve been stewing on with my 10th slot and why.

But before I get into that’s let’s talk about how I got to the 10th slot and what the heck I’m talking about.

The Sentinel Affiliation

The current Sentinel Affiliation includes the following characters:

  • Sentinel Prime MK4
  • Cassandra Nova
  • Sentinel MK4
  • Nimrod, The Hunter
  • Bastion
  • Omega Sentinel
  • Prime Sentinel

“But that’s only 7 characters, isn’t a full roster 10?” Yes. That’s true! However, both the Sentinel MK4 and the Prime Sentinel can be duplicated in your lists. They are one of the only characters where you can have TWO of them in your roster. With that happening, you’re now at 9 total. Simple.

Now, I know some folks out there might consider this sub-optimal. While I can see their point, I also don’t fully agree. I, personally, like to take thematic lists. So I want to cram as many Sentinels of the same in-game Affiliation in my list as possible. But that leaves us with one spot remaining. And that’s where Under Your Skin comes into play:

This allows you to take any single character and make them a Sentinel. Sure, it’s a team tactic slot, and yes, you don’t technically have to do this, and you can still have a legal list. But I’m including it because I think if you’re going to go outside of the faction, you might as well do something to make it a little more thematic. If you don’t care about theme, well, more power to you!

Sentinel Sleeper Agents

Now, with that out of the way, let’s get to the 5 characters I think would be good fits and why. Some of these address a few issues I’ve seen with Sentinels so far. Some of them lean into the more “power-gamey” aspects. And some of them I just put in because I think they make sense thematically.

Hawkeye and Black Widow, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I know, I know, I’m starting off with a two-fer. But why? Well, firstly, because both of these characters just came out in the same pack, which I wrote up. So I know they are easily accessible. Next, they both provide something that really makes Sentinels even more of a pain to deal with: Poison. Hawkeye gets it on wilds with his primary builder while Black Widow, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., gets it on her Tear Gas attack. It costs 2, but it’s auto poison. And it can hit multiple targets.

So why poison? Well, if you think energy generation is rough with Bastion’s Leadership and Root from the Sentinels, try dealing with Poison on top of that, too. Between the two, I’m personally leaning a bit more towards Hawkeye. They are both 3,s but he seems like he’s more likely to fall victim to some Sentinel Nano-tech and become an unwitting pawn. Also, I already painted him purple, and the colors fit with my Sentinel’s scheme better…

Nebula

Okay, no lie, this one might be a on the busted side of things. But Nebula has a LOT going for her within the Sentinels Affiliation. First up, she’s a 2 threat. That’s a handy Threat to have in your list when you need to round out points. Especially with all those 4 and 5 costs options in the Roster. Second, she’s purple. Well, at least my version is. Hey, I already said I like the theme. Oh and She’s also got a bunch of Cybernetic parts already…again, leaning into that whole robot aesthetic. But it reality, she’s here because she’s frankly a scary option.

She brings both Shock (with her basic Strike) and Stun (with her Shock Sword Assault). She tends to swing above her weight already but adding Stun in the mix with Sentinels and watch as the enemy’s power generation crumbles. Sure, she’s already got the immunity to bleed and stun already so Under Your Skin isn’t that important. But she does gain the Sentinel Affiliation and Flight which may come in handy.

Rescue

Rescue is another one of those characters that I’m having a hard time find a reason NOT to splash in lists. If you’ve seen her in action then you already know. Again, we’ve got the obvious healing she does. Have you ever Healed 5 damage of a Sentinel MK4? Because she can do that in one attack (with some hot dice, sure). But that’s just demoralizing to see. She brings the Stun to the table with Sonic Barrage, too. That’s just extra nasty. She can boost defenses and in a pinch she can Medevac a character out. All that for 3 threat? Yeah…

Oh and Rescue Armor also denies the enemy energy because it reduces damage by 1, down to 1, too! Plus, she’s already in an Iron Man suit of armor and she’s blue. She basically blends right into the Sentinels already!

Lowkey, I think she’s probably going to need a rework at some point but she’s just really good regardless. And with a bunch of beefy Sentinels running around that need healing? She’s a beast.

Shocker

I know this is probably going to feel like a completely random option. But I legit think Shocker brings value to the Sentinels. He’s a 3 threat with a medium move on a medium base. That’s good. He can boost his own defenses and can even reduce the enemy’s attack dice pool. He brings the stun on a wild with his basic Vibro-Shock Strike, too! Now, give him immunity to Bleed, Poison, and give him Flight.

While he’s maybe not as flashy as some of the other characters I think he’s got some utility in his kit. That Shake’em Down also can come in clutch if you really need to slow down a big target. Plus, if he hitting a big threat and Bastion is your leader, that’s likely 2 less energy they are getting from that attack, too. He’s a surprisingly effective pick. But maybe not as…shocking as my last pick.

Apocalypse

Okay! I know this is crazy. It goes against a lot of the themes I was talking about. And it’s frankly just kind of weird. But if you have room for a 6 threat character or you just want to try something crazy, then try Apocalypse in Sentinels.

You’re giving up a lot of his power to do this as you’re not getting the Horsemen. But, by using Under Your Skin on him, he’s also gaining Immunity to Poison and Flight. But what I really want to direct your eyes to is his spender attack: En Sabah Nur’s Judgement. It starts at 8 dice. But with a couple of conditions on the target enemy it starts to add up quickly. Woe to the enemy that is loaded up with conditions, and if there’s one faction that can toss out conditions like nobody’s business, it’s the Sentinels.

Sentinel Mk4’s can drop 3 conditions on a target with one (very lucky) Suppression Protocols. Prime Sentinels can apply Root for doing almost nothing. Even Apocalypse can Shock or Root with his builder. And that can parley into a Throw if you get lucky, too.

While it’s extremely silly, I think Apocalypse with the Sentinels is one of those combos that you’re unlikely to ever see. But man if you get hit by that wombo-combo…ouch.
