Star Wars: Legion – WLO-5 Speeder Tank Unboxed & Up Close
The WLO-5 Speeder Tank is in the house! Let’s take a closer look at this new pirate/merc option for Star Wars: Legion.
The Pirates are coming to the tabletop in style with the new WLO-5 Speeder Tank from Atomic Mass Games. They were kind enough to send me a copy to review, and this one is a big kit. Let’s get inside the box and talk about the building experience that I had with this one.
I keep saying “pirate” because this one can be used by a bunch of factions, including the Weequay Pirates, Black Sun, and Pyke Syndicate. It spans the various eras and can be included in the Galactic Republic, Separatist Alliance, Rebel Alliance, Galactic Empire, or Shadow Collective armies. Seriously, this one gets around!

This is a BIG kit from SWL. You get all the typical packaging from AMG with this one. The sprues are in one giant bag, while the cards, flight stand, and base are in their own respective bags.
As for the cards, you get a full play set for each supported language.
Again, because you add it to so many armies, you’ve got options when it comes to which crew you want to take. And you can make it a Command Vehicle, as well.
For the bits, there’s a bunch of big sprues’ worth of stuff to look at. This was a rare case that needed two photos to showcase it all.
Some of the bits did break off in transit, but that’s one of the reasons I like the bags from AMG for the bits. Everything that came off the sprue was still in the bag, safe and sound.
With the size and the amount of sprues, I’m a little surprised more bits didn’t get knocked off, to be honest.
And do note there are four sets of gunner options you can build here. One for each of the different crew options, and I guess a more generic pirate, too. You can even build it without a gunner if you play the different armies and you want to keep it more “generic” looking. Speaking of which, let’s get to the completed kit!

Now, there are a couple of things I want to note here. Yes, it’s tilting backwards. That’s on me. I probably should have put the “flight stand a bit more on the centerline. Just a couple of mm would have been good. Or I could add some counterweights when I base this miniature up. A nice scenic rock would be perfect here.
Also, I opted to just build this one like the box. I think the guy riding shotgun is kind of cool, so I wanted to include him.
As far as building this one, though, there’s not a TON of tricks to it. The one major piece of advice this time around is to follow the instructions in order. You can find those right HERE. The reason is that there are a few parts that you kind of want assembled in order, or you’re not going to be able to add them after the fact. So don’t go guessing this time: follow the instructions.
Oh, and the little handlebars on the back? I had to use tweezers to apply those. That was the toughest part of this build. Everything else goes together pretty easily and obviously. Plus, there are a lot of “mirrored” parts like the fins and engines. Once you build one side, you’ll be able to do the other side with no issue.
Those 6 handle bars were literally the toughest part of the build. I guess they are piping or wiring for the vehicle. I’m not well-versed enough in sci-fi engine designs to know what techno-babble to call them.
Anyhow, it was a neat kit to build. It took a little longer than I was expecting, but that’s just because I wanted to make sure I built this one correctly! Take your time, and it should be an easy build, too!
