Warhammer 40k: Imperial Faction Packs Have Arrived – Big Changes Incoming
The final Faction Packs for 11th Edition 40k are available to download. Check out the changes to humanity’s defenses.
Right on schedule, the Imperial Faction packs are here to download. The release of this final set of detachments and datasheets means every army in 40k is now updated for the 11th edition rules set. We’ve already seen the lethal Space Marines, nefarious Xenos, and malevolent forces of Chaos, and now it’s the remainder of humanity’s turn in the spotlight.
Imperial Detachments and Force Dispositions
Today’s release tidies things up for the following armies:
- Astra Militarum
- Adepta Sororitas
- Adeptus Mechanicus
- Imperial Knights
- Adeptus Custodes
- Imperial Agents
- Adeptus Titanicus
Once again, the article opens with a full list of each army’s detachments, their associated force dispositions, and their costs in Detachment Points. As we’ve seen previously, the new detachment point system tops out at 3. These most expensive detachments are largely limited to those detachments most generally considered powerful on the tabletop as well as those with very narrow thematic focus. All three Inquisitorial themed detachments cost 3DP each. Unsurprising given that these are meant to represent very specific kinds of forces so the studio doesn’t want to dilute them with the addition of secondary, smaller detachments.
By and large though, there’s a tremendous amount of freedom to build interesting forces for every Imperial army, no matter the flavor.
Updated Datasheets
Big changes have come all over, but you’ll need to read carefully to see exactly where. The Faction Packs are meant to establish the foundational rules and unit profiles for the new edition. This means that future updates, FAQs, and errata will be highlighted and the changes easily tracked but the current set of downloads do not show any markup from the 10th edition rules.
It’s a lot to take in, so be sure to read your own Faction Packs carefully, especially in regards to army-wide rules which may have changed in subtle ways.
It’s too early to do anything but guess about specifics but with the release of these final Faction Packs the general shape of the edition is starting to come into focus. The last missing piece has been promised to arrive next week: the Munitorum Field Manual. With its arrival we should receive points values for every unit in all of 40k and can start building lists in earnest. 11th edition and Armageddon are just over a week away!
