money_1

The latest info from retailers is coming in.  Here’s what to expect this week grimdark gamers!

Multiple retailers are now reporting the following for this week:

new-stormsurge1

KX139 Tau Stormsurge Ballistic Suit £90

  • New style GW hard cardboard box (like the Imperial Knight)
  • Single model, as large as the Riptide
  • Large array of optional weapons
  • Designed to destroy titans, super-heavies, gargantuan creatures

SM-box-sternguard

Space Marine Vanguard Veterans (Reboxed 5models w/ 32mm bases)

Space Marine Sternguard Veterans (Reboxed 5models w/ 32mm bases)

So it looks like two separate kits for the Riptide and the Stormsurge.

~Have at it! What do you think about that price?

  • benn grimm

I hope one of the options involves arms…

    • Xodis

Who needs arms, when you have rocket arms? lol

      • Samuel Sanchez

I’m confused how this thing even has a cc atk considering it has no arms to even punch with. Stomps are basically it kicking.

The head doesn’t matter it’s just a sensor array the actual pilot is sitting pretty in the chest.

        • Spacefrisian

It trips every time it gets in combat, thats a cc attack as wel right?

        • benn grimm

It river-dances all over the enemy…ooh, I thought of the perfect name for it now; The Flatley-bot! 😉

        • Xodis

True, just a weird addition. Painting it a different color then the rest of the body doesn’t help the “shoot me here” vibe either.

          • benn grimm

That’s a common 40k paradox though, just look at ultramarines; the true proponents of the codex, its not enough that they eschew zone specific camouflage, preferring to just wear big blue and gold armour, they actually paint their superior officer’s helmets in red. Doesn’t get much better than that for enemy snipers…:)

          • Drpx

Before GW and Ward decided SMs were perfect in every way, I distinctively recall at least one codex saying the marines put honor before reason and made plenty of unnecessary last stands.

          • benn grimm

Sounds like Imperial Fists, I remember reading something like that in the 4th ed codex chapter tactics.

          • Damistar

I recall in the early rogue trader days the space marines used camoflage on missions and the bright colors were like their dress uniform. Then again that’s when they were all killers and crazies serving the Imperium to avoid prison.

          • JayBiga

Indeed. Yet when RT started moving into the real grimdark towards the end of the edition, there was also a quote like: “By thy colour will he know thee, by thy colour will he fear thee.”
Seems to sum up the Astartes pretty well.

        • Mathew G. Smith

Judging by the pose it’s main attack is tea bagging enemies.

        • davepak

You mean just like a warhound, or a dakka dred? Totally agree.

          • Samuel Sanchez

Technically you can swing a long barrel gun with a swivel mount with great force: you can’t however swing a missle pod. Both those examples you gave have arms. But yea I agree even a dakka dred shouldn’t have 2str 10 atk it makes no sense an auto cannon arm is the same atk as a powerfist.

        • Emdee

          Like a giant sentinel…….I guess.

      • benn grimm

Well not that guy, clearly… 🙂

  • Xodis

    Big giant body…itty bitty head.

Its right by the vent on that giant plasma weapon too….could need to swap it out after a couple shots before it melts lol

    • G Ullrich

That’s not a vent, it’s a reinforced speaker grill to pump awesome sound effects into the pilot’s brain when firing the BFG on the shoulder!

      • Xodis

        PUMP UP THE BASS!!!!!

        • euansmith

So let’s go back, for old time’s sake

Yo Jeff! (WHAT?) Pump up the bass!

          I. like. my. music. loud!

    • Spacefrisian

Hmm i think it would look better with its legs swapped for a Devilfish or Piranha, just an idea.

    • Red_Five_Standing_By

Why does it need a big head? The cockpit is in the chest. The head only needs to be a camera.

      • Xodis

Why does it need a head at all lol. The camera would probably be better served in the chest as well. Less chance of it being targeted or being caught in low hanging trees hehe

        • Red_Five_Standing_By

It would look weird if nothing was there. Like some kind of ball with legs.

          • Xodis

If it wasn’t red I dont think anyone would notice it anyways.

          • Red_Five_Standing_By

I think the painter was channeling the Rick Dom when he colored the head the way he did.

          • Xodis

            Good call lol.

Curious what the “crotch shield sensor” is for hehe

          • euansmith

The purple helmet rather than the red one… fnarrr fnarrr

          • euansmith

Far more bada$$ than Mr Armless…

          • Red_Five_Standing_By

But the Rick Dom is one of the classics of the mecha world.

          • euansmith

            Indeed.

  • Spacefrisian

Reboxed Spezmuhrines veteran box with 32 mm bases…erm those are the obvious 25mm bases if iam not mistaken.

    • Because that is the old box that’s been on sale for years, not the repackaged one yet.

  • TimW

Mechas needs arms to help them stand up if they get knocked over by a blast. This one will get hit by a blast knocked over and then spend the rest of the battle squirming on the ground like a flipped turtle.

    • Red_Five_Standing_By

Why? It can have lots of miniature thrusters to help right itself. That’s a lot cheaper than creating fully articulated arms.

      • vlad78

And when they fail due to low fuel or battle damage? It’s better to have redundant systems.

BTW did you see thrusters behind that suit?

    • Xodis

It looks like its almost quadrupedal with those braces behind the primary feet. May be more stable then it looks.

    • standardleft

would firing its missile pods push it back up?

    • Ronin
  • dodicula

Gw marketing- peopke are sick of skulls… so what if we replace all those skulls with guns???

    • Mathew G. Smith

“Not being covered in skulls” is one of the Tau’s core design asthetics.

  • Fuppylodders

They really need to make a better scaled sensor array. While it isn’t a uead, how on earth is it supposed to see/sense below its belly??
It also just looks ridiculously small for a robot that big…

    • Valeli

I honestly like the whole armless-headless thing a good deal. I think it looks unique. Way more unique than just putting out another transformer.

Not sure I like it $150 much though… we’ll see.

      • nurglitch

Unique as in a knock-off of 3/4 of the armless Battletech mechs?

  • Mr.Gold

Hmmm… let me guess without even looking at the article, the price goes up.

    • Red_Five_Standing_By

      130 is the new 80.

      • evilazzaMachine

$130? Lol I’ve already had it confirmed at $150usd

  • pokemastercube .

sadly FW allready blead me dry with the KX….oh why did it all come at once….

    • OrkiePancakes

I think the better question is, why the level of milking with these new kits? The KX139 is more appropriately priced than the Stormsurge, but I also feel your pain. I purchased a KX139 as well, and won’t be touching the GW kita for a little while.

      • pokemastercube .

well i might be able to streach out for codex and the 95 armour, but this, no. plus stormsurge V KX for lord of war option, i going to stick with the KX, maybe add some of this later

      • davepak

Agree…..they don’t get this whole “supply and demand ” thing.

        • OrkiePancakes

After seeing the new pics that released on this kit, im actually starting to think it is worth the 130 saddly. It has a lot of detail and options. Still probably could be about 10 bucks cheaper to be fair.

  • Anyone with eyes and half a brain could tell that the Stormsurge is a totally new kit; it shares no elements with the Riptide whatsoever, so that confirmation hardly comes as a surprise. I doubt that it’s Riptide sized though; it looks quite a bit bigger to me; certainly a lot chunkier and probably taller too.

    • davepak

Cause you know, one extra sprue makes is worth $70 increase….

    • ieyke

I’m fairly certain it’s larger. This thing is more like a walking Hammerhead gunship in bulk and design than a large Crisis suit.

  • OrkiePancakes

Yup, knew it. 130! Absurd, honestly closer to that value than Skarband though.

    • Jet Voidweller

Honestly that isn’t too bad. It is around the same price as the other LoW gargantuans like the wraithknight and the imperial knights.

      • OrkiePancakes

That really isnt a good way to determine the value or pricing of a product. Just because it is around the same price as a similar product in terms of game mechanics, doesnt mean it should be priced similar. It looks the size of a riptide, a more reasonable price would be 20 bucks less than this, but hey, it is a well made kit. So some people see its pricing as legit, not knocking on you or anything.

      • An_Enemy

Saying $130 for a plastic model with no articulation “isn’t too bad” is not being honest.

        • Cameron Karge

Nah homie. Find me another model, at that size and detail that is significantly less. Go on ahead.

          • An_Enemy
          • Cameron Karge

Three things, so that model does not look more detailed, that is sale price 190 looks like the normal one, three I saw the whole head in the sand thing, kinda rude.

          • Cameron Karge

Also if it is 1:60 scale, it is pretty much the same size.

          • An_Enemy

Close only counts with horse shoes and hand grenades pal. Facts. It’s bigger, its colored plastic, and it contains more parts. For less. Which is what you asked for rather condescendingly. Now you’re going to go into butthurt denial mode because your fanboy foundation has been shaken?

I’d include better detail in there too, but that’s subjective because apparently you think hollow plastic with missiles poking out is more detail than all that outer detailing AND an inner skeleton.

For record, I picked the most plain perfect grade too. I could have picked a master grade that’s got the same detail, is the size of a Knight titan, and goes for around $30.

          • Meeee

You killed him with that comment.
            Good job sir.

          • An_Enemy

Three things. It has an entire inner skeleton with moving parts as opposed to just being hollow plastic. The sale price is like $80. Look harder. If I’d known this was how you were going to reply I’d have just left the head in the sand comment because its amazingly accurate and proven in retrospect.

          • ieyke

That Gundam is like 5x more detailed and complex than any 40k model.

  • crusader284

I knew the Stormsurge would be priced around £70 – £100, but if they’re reboxing the Veterans please don’t tell me they’ve done that just as an excuse to increase the price.

  • davepak

Wow GW. Thats insane. here is the formula (rule quality + model cool) / Price = purchase chance. This model is trending very very low.

  • ieyke

“So it looks like two separate kits for the Riptide and the Stormsurge.”

Your grasp of the blatantly obvious is impressive.

The kits don’t share ANY parts.
